Sleazy sales. Conned mother into paint sealant

I just talked to my mother who I am buying a M3 GT for, got a decent deal. Few hundred under invoice after talking to many dealers. Just found out the salesman somehow conned her into taking a paint sealant.

$299! Telling her she doesn't have to wax her car for 5 years, and itís a full 5 year warranty. Saying to just squeegee a dirty car clean.. UGH.

I plan on having a little talk about that, waiting to hear back from her. Hope she didnít sign something.

Man, that's shady!

If there was a product that would protect your paint, wax-free, for 5 years, you can be sure it would cost a hell of a lot more than 3 bills! And if it did only cost $300, it would be a standard part of the factory paint job for all but the most economy of econoboxes.

Not even that, but the part that pissed me off more is telling her its ok to use a squeegee on a dirty car. If he can show me how dragging dirty and junk across new paint doesn't scratch it up to no end, ill give him $300 just for the heck of it.

Trying to rip her off for $299 for something worthless is one thing, but telling her to do something to damn near ruin her paint is a bit much and telling her to do it for 5 years and never wax.

I realize they are just trying to make their money back by matching the lowest offer.. but come on. Luckily she signed nothing, so I will be letting him know tomorrow that its a no go on a $300 paint sealing.

Make sure there wasn't some extended warranty in there somewhere, that's if you didn't want one. I had one slipped onto the contract at the very last minute; very sneaky and underhanded.

Let mw guess....it was the finance manager at the dealer when she went to finish up the deal.

I just had that done yesterday...they try to sell you Disability Insurance for 50 bucks month, the Pro Pack (rust inhibitor, sealant, fabric guard and undercoat) for $1,300 and the extended warranty for $600.

They give you the nice sales pitch on all them, but unfortunately they got zero business from me in those areas.

They did that to when i bought mine but i said "no i just want to go home" it was a 6 hour session so i was beat, and here the contract comes with all the dealer add ons.... added another 35mins to the process and then tried to charge me for the paper or something

I just got to look at the paperwork, luckily nothing else added on the paperwork. Just the price we agreed on and the out the door price we agreed on. So I will just cancel that sealant junk and tell him nothing else, only what we talked about.

Funny how he didn't try to sell me this crap, but waited for my mother to come back in and the first I hear about it is from her. I can't wait for this to be over.

Actually, those paint sealants work pretty damn good when applied properly. I used to work at a dealership that sold them for $1200 so you got a deal at $299. You could always tell the cars that had them applied when they came back in for service because they looked great years later. But 5 years is stretching it for not waxing it or having it reapplied.

Yes, but if you take care of the car with waxing/polishing, do you think it would make any difference?

Re: Sleazy sales. Conned mother into paint sealant

People paid $1,200 for them? Could you please give me their names, I am sure I can find something to sell them.

I guess if you totally ignore your car, one with some lame sealant would hold up a little better than one without it. But if you can show me something you can put on your car, then drag dirt across it like they say you can wash it as long as you have their sealant.. Well I will give you a few bucks too.
