Windows XP on an Intel Mac: Confirmed!!!

This page might not be working that well right now due to all the hits it's getting....

But basically the $13,000+ prize has been won to successfully boot XP on an Intel Mac.

http://wiki.onmac.net/

The Competition:

My new Apple MacBook is shipping on the 15th of February has shipped on the 22nd February (7 day delay). I told my boss that this would replace my IBM desktop and I could boot Windows XP on it. I am still confident it can be done. I am giving $100 of my own money and offering anyone else who would like the instructions on how to Dual boot these two operating systems the ability to give some of their money into the pot as a prize for the person / group that can make dual-booting Mac OS X and Windows XP happen on an Intel Mac. Good Luck,

Colin

These were the rules:

The Rules
Instructions must boot Windows XP (at least), not Vista or any other version of Windows.
Windows must be able to coexist with Mac OS X and each system may not interfere with the operation of the other (basically a traditional dual boot system where one OS is running at a time)
Your method, upon starting the computer, must offer the user to boot either OS X or Windows XP (hint: GRUB / LILO)
The first person to post complete instructions, including pictures of the boot process to The Forum will be the winner. Instructions will be peer reviewed once they are received and once the solution is guaranteed working, the prize money will be transferred via paypal
You give this website the rights to post your solution exclusively
If it is determined impossible to boot Windows on the Mac by March 23, 2006 March 30, 2006 (7 day delay), all donations will be donated to the Electronic Frontier Foundation. If you donated prior to 2006/01/23 2:10pm CST, and you do not wish to donate to charity, I will return your money minus the paypal fee
You cannot use virtualization software such as Xen or VMWare

Instructions on how to do it is on the site, click on the "download now" (if you can get to the page that is).

I'll be trying this out this weekend!!!

woot...i knew it was eventual. The guy did have to do some serious hacking though to get it to run. Plus with no real benches, who knows if its really a worthwhile to do thing. You can't just boot Win, and then turn around and boot OSX...its either or.

Re: Windows XP on an Intel Mac: Confirmed!!!

Why would I want Windows on my Mini or iMac when I have a dedicated gaming PC? I'd much rather have someone get OS X running on the new UMPC/Origamis.

Yes, I saw my stupid mistake.

I'm pretty sure that this partitions the hard drive and lets you choose which you want to boot to.

"After rebooting, you should see a crystal Apple logo at the center of the screen. Use the arrow keys (up/down) to switch between OS X and Windows."

Jodo, it's a dual boot, you can select which OS you want to run (as per the competition rules).

There is still some drivers that people are writing/finding so not everything is working....

But I'd sure as hell like to play some PC games on my beefy MacBook Pro!
