OK, I need suggestions: Boston regional forum (not M3F/FMVp related)

http://www.bigbostonboard.com/index.php

New forum I'm launching, because I'm sick of having nowhere to talk about general Boston issues. Any suggestions for the setup, etc?

Looks good to me, but perhaps you should have a section dedicated to politics.* You could call it the Ted Kennedy Fan Club.* On second thought, maybe not.*

Just having some fun, Dan. Seriously though, I wish you the Best of Luck with the new site.*

"I'd still rather go hunting with Dick Cheney than driving with Ted Kennedy"

Anyway, this new site is just something to relax with. M3F is a beast and more stress than relaxation. I love running the FMVp network, don't get me wrong, but I need to relax too!

I think the BBB site needs some more in the college section, and I'm not sure what else... besides members

Mostly I started this site because I was looking for suggestions on where to live next year, and try as I might, there was nowhere I could find recommendations/suggestions for that kind of thing. Even craigslist has no regional forums.

Haha.* Yeah, the odds of survival are obviously quite better.

I've lost track of BeanTown.* Did they ever finish the "Big Dig"?

Re: OK, I need suggestions: Boston regional forum (not M3F/FMVp related)

Only thing that I suggest would be to merge a lot of your smaller categories into bigger ones. This won't be a huge forum right off the bat, trust me on this one. I have managed several forums for quite some time now, and it's always suggested that you start out small and expand as your amount of users increases. It makes it a lot easier and attractive for new users...

For example... your entire "Entertainment" you can combine "Bars, Taverns, Pubs, Pool Halls & Clubs" with "Resturaunts"...

You can also merge "Movies & TV", "Theater"& "Music & Concerts"

Sports seems fine, except maybe switch "Other Sports" to "General Sports"?

Living Category countains "Rent" & "Sale" I would merge them into "Rent & Sale"

I'm not 100% sure what your target market is butI can get a pretty good idea.

It would be a good idea to keep it under 4-5 categories with less than 3-4 forums each.

These are all my personal opinions and suggestions. Take them as you wish, but I mean to be helpful. Let me know if I can help in any way.

Juan

Pursue the real estate angle on the site. *Before you know it, unfathomable income may be on the horizon.
