Re: Microsoft Ipod/DS/PSP/Laptop thing

It's too late to take on ipod at this point, doesn't apple control like 80% of the portable music biz?

absolutely nothing like the ipod. the ipods beauty is its simplicity - this is more like a laptop. Sure, you could play music on it, but that isn't what it's for.

Re: Microsofts 'Ultra Mobile PC' with pic

this is NOT an ipod competitor. it is a tablet pc... much more-so than the current laptop/tablet pc's. I would seriously love to have one of these if it had wifi, and canon started making a wifi adapter for my rebel... of course, that'd be expensive as hell.

MS wants to see these anywhere from $600-$1000.

There's your cheap nav system right there, with Streets & Trips or Street Atlas and a GPS puck. Mount it right on the dash or put in some kind of bracket, and you're set.

resolution and battery life suck on that thing but i'm defintely gonna keep my eye on that as a carputer solution. just think: docking station built into your dash so you just pop the thing in when you get in your car and you've got access to your GPS, mp3's, bluetooth, etc... When you need to update it or don't want it visible, remove it.

And then mount a USB DVD drive in the unoccupied spot in the radio stack, and get your flicks on.

Next up - the 12VDC popcorn popper mod...
