When someone cuts you off...

Well folks I accidently cut someone off this morning on my way to work.* I did a shoulder check so I'm not sure where this person was when I changed lanes, but he let me know how displeased he was with my choice of lanes as he went flying by me screaming expletives at me, then cut me off and gave me the finger.

You know, I didn't mean to cut this guy off.* It was an accident.* I can understand him being upset at me and even angry, but I found his display of rage absolutely terrifying.* I've been driving for 20+ years and I consider myself to be a good driver.* Not a perfect driver, no one is perfect.* I've been cut off myself, and besides blowing my horn and muttering under my breath a few choice words, that's all I've done.* I've even been on the highway in a 6 car accident that happened when a van cut across three lanes, so I know how it happens.

People, if you get cut off on the highway, don't flip out like this.* The person who accidently cut you off didn't mean to do it.* They didn't single you out to piss you off.* They didn't do it on purpose. They made an error in judgement.* It happens.* And to that guy I cut off..I'm sorry.

I just find this way more constructive rather than pulling out my gun from the glove box and shooting the guy.

Yeah, that is a much better way to handle it, LOL, shooting the guy wouldn't make you better off.

I do get pretty pissed off when someone cuts me off on the highway. Sometimes I take it personally, don't know why, but I do. Depending on the traffic situation I will get offensive, but the furthest I go is beeping my horn at the guy till he realizes what he's done. Then I'll give him a dirty look and pass him, leaving him in the dust.

Re: When someone cuts you off...

I got cut off 2 weeks after buying my 3 back in mid 2004. Was in eastern VA for the weekend, and a woman in a brand new Ford Expedition cut me off, but was a little too close, and well, clipped me.

Luckily it got fixed while I was in Iraq. Such an eyesore. But it happens, getting 12 flavors of pissed off won't change that other drivers suck, or don't pay attention, or drive vehicles too large for them to handle. Just be glad you didnt' get hit.

Re: When someone cuts you off...

I had a guy in rush hour today cut me off and then signaled after he got into the lane, that didn't bother me. What did bother me was that he would slam on his brakes everytime someone would turn their blinker on and let them in and drove really slowly like he was trying to piss me off. When we went passed him getting off the freeway it was some older guy that looked like he didn't care about anything so it was kinda weird.

I know how you feel about accidently cutting someone off, I think sometimes people know you are going to get over and then intentionally gun it to keep you from doing it and then when you get over anyways it pisses them off. Some people from the moment they get in their car seem to be ready for a confrontation, it's almost disturbing.

Re: When someone cuts you off...

There is changing lanes...and there is cutting off.

Its another thin line...similar to the rice or not rice debate I guess.

If you are waist high in traffic...and the other driver has to change lanes...its not exactly cutting off. Let em go. They have to exit. You will have to change lanes eventually.

I think if a person is changing lanes, and they could have waited for me to pass ebcause there is more room behind me, and its dangerous to do it in front of me, then I consider that cutting me off. At that point depending on my mood, I get upset, or I shrug it off. Now I kind of just laugh....because one time, someone cut me off, I honked my horn to let em know I was there, and they got all pissy with me. slow, fast, slow fast, slow fast.....UGH. I felt like moving in front and slamming on my brakes. So now, i try to laugh it off and say "what a stupid ass driver, go take ur driver's test again".

If i got pissed off at every driver in nova scotia that cut me off, there would be a LOTTTTT of pissed off situations :P at least 4 times a day or so!
Don't get me started about the ppl that drive slow in the left lane too :O

Kinda like the Disney cartoon "Motor Mania" with Goofy as Mr Walker / Mr Wheeler (Dr Jekyll / Mr Hyde).
