Firefly

Ok just found out about this series after i watched serenity... Let me tell you, this is the greatest experience i have ever had watching a tv show! This is like Han Solo meeting Chronicles of Riddick and Star Wars environments.... Its so cool, i love that the director is very subtle in revealing details about whats going on in the story. Like in real life, no one goes around telling everyone everything, they just talk to each other about what they need to know, and thats how its done in this show. He gives u enough to figure stuff out yourself without going around telling everyone exactly whats happening in the story (i dunno if what i siad made sense, but i dont know how to describe it)..

Fantastic show, im really dissapointed Fox discontinued it. I just got the DVD box set... the first 2 episodes alone sold me.

Recommended!

Re: Firefly

Problem with the show on fox was that they did not show the episodes in order...Why they played them out of order I dont know. Its like they wanted Firefly to fail....

Fox did many things stupid, yes that being one of them. They tried to pass it off as a space comedy, which it was far from. That was an insult to Joss Whedon as well as the FF cast... Serenity was also poorly done in the sense that marketing and timing of the movie was HORRID. Fans simply didnt have time to see the movie, it was a busy time of the year and no one even knew about it, which is a shame because the DVD is now doing amazing now that people ACTUALLY HEARD (hello universal marketing, are you listening?) about the good reviews.

Re: Firefly

Eh, I wasn't too impressed with the movie. I mean, they did it well, for what it was. But everything in it was extremely rushed & glossed over. Not really the movies fault, more of a fault of it was really meant to be tends of hours of film, compressed to 2.

The series is awesome, but had extremely poor marketing (go fox). Hell when it was on TV, I didn't even think about watching it - looked retarded from the commercials.

Re: Firefly

^ Agree to that... I had a few friends telling me to get into it and I never did, then I read about it, tried to catch it on SciFi but then gave in and purchased the DVDs and boy am I happy with that purchase!

Yeah, when it was on SciFi right before the movie came out... I was like, dude, you gotta check this out. My room mate was like, I watched that when it came out originally back in '00... or something to that effect. Oh

Still a good series.

Re: Firefly

My in-laws have the box set and loaned it to my wife and I. Absolutely loved it. Mostly because it's different from most sci-fi shows in that everything isn't pristine and perfect. It's more like real life..... in the future. They get down and dirty just like everyone else. We have Serenity coming to us via Netflix only it never showed up and now I'm waiting on the replacement copy.

Incidentally another entertaining show that Fox cancelled is Wonderfalls. Storyline is a girl graduates from Brown and goes to work as a cashier at a gift shop at Niagra falls. Then inanimate objects start talking to her and having her help people. Sounds strange, but really was a great show. One of the things that killed this one was that they put it in horrible time slots. That and I think they only aired four episodes.

Re: Firefly

i liked the TV series.* I only liked Mal (captain) and Kaylie (mechanic)-- everyone else's character seemed "incomplete", and river seems to be a character that gets in the way of everything sometimes- i guess the execs didn't understand the show so got canned pretty fast.* i'm glad the movie came out.* Summer (River) finally got to do something she never does in the show- speak a complete thought and kick ass.* It provided somewhat of a closure for me

I like the small bits of chinese they say, especially when they're cursing...

I didn't realize joss made buffy and angel too.* he must be loaded... somewhat.

Well the part about river not making sense in the show... well that would have been an excellent storyline to continue her personality development evnetually to the point she reached in serenity... but obviously it didnt happen becuase the idiot execs cut the show... A LOT could have happened with this show in terms of characters, story and involvement, but it just wanst given a chance. The movie serenity proved that the public and especially critics LOVE the idea and LOVE joss whedon's directing.
