not sure if that's gonna be wide spread release format from Virgin...They might only be sending these disks to high-piracy areas. The link actually is from a guy in India(high-piracy) so dunno.

Re: I guess I'll pass on buying this Coldplay CD...

I'm not quite understanding... I get that it will be copyright protected and it won't be able to be burned or converted into mp3 - but what will prevent it from playing on a car stereo. In otherwords, how can a disc be coded only to be played in a portable or home CD player and not a car's cd player - that doesn't make sense. Someone needs to shed some light on this for me.

Well if you watched the 40-year-old virgin.....you'll know one more reason.

"How do I know you're gay?" ...."You listen to Coldplay" haha

it's not that it won't play in a car stereo...it might not play in SOME car stereos, specifically those that have "satellite guidance systems" "hard disk recording capability" and "the capability of burning into an MP3"

the copy protection keeps the disk from being read by certain types of players, I assume based on the characteristics of the player or laser itself since, in a normal cd player, it can't actually execute a program to stop itself from being read. Anybody know more about that?

Re: I guess I'll pass on buying this Coldplay CD...

I bought X&Y for my sister right when it came out and it has copy protection, but it didn't come with that notice. She wasn't able to rip it in iTunes for use on her iPod, but I had absolutely no trouble doing it for her with CDex. So much for their super-secure copy protection.

Re: I guess I'll pass on buying this Coldplay CD...

as I said, that link was from India. CD manufacturers put stricter rules for certain high-risk countries. As for the no play in cars, its because the files are compressed differently than normal(hence the needing to use their "player.exe" file) but of course there are ways around that.
