I... hate... carbs... and not the kind you eat.

OK granted I take the most horrible care of my yammie, namely by notbeing around it for 3 months and letting it sit there freezing with a full tank of gas, but I'm sick and tired of how easily the damn carb clogs. Just came back to my parents house, where it is stored, afte ra few months away, and the fucking thing won't start.

ARGH

I already tried fuel additives and the like. It has coughed and started a bit once or twice, but died after a couple seconds of coughing. This is even worse than the last time it did it.

Dude, it's called pullng the carb and cleaning it. Now get to work. I guess you may also need to check the fuel lines and filter to see if something just gummed up in there...

There's also this stuff called Stab-il or something (it's a red funky shaped additive near the fuel cleaner additives) - it helps keep condensation out of fuel.

what holey said, use the fuel stabilizer when storing the car. cleaning a carb isn't really that hard, i much rather trouble shoot and fix a problem on a carb vs a fuel injection system.

There was fuel stabilizer in the tank.

I'm sure it isn't that hard, but I've never so much as seen a carb before - it isn't like cars have them anymore. And my dad hates my bike, so he's certainly not going to show me.

I think this is when you need to go find something and set it on fire. That's the easiest way to get attention from your dad.

Oh wait - none of you all did this back when you were a kid? Oh crap......

Heck, pull those things off and clean 'em. I pulled some off a V65 I had in '03 and cleaned them and the thing ran like new. If I can do it you can, remember, no carb cleaner on any rubber parts.

Carbs really aren't that difficult.

Lots of little springs and gaskets but as long as you put it back together the opposite of how you took it apart... everything is good.

I rebuilt the carb on my mom's old Dodge Caravan one weekend. Nothing like not knowing what the hell I was doing and only having the parts, no instructions...
