Rental Cars

So last week my company set me up with a rental car and I drove from Omaha to Fort Dodge with it for work for a few days. We did the walk around before hand, and nothing was wrong. I took the car there and brought it back. No accidents, no damage, no nothing. Brought it back, it had some dirt on it from the roads, and they did their walk around, and signed off on it. Now they call up my boss, 5 days later, and say there are white scratch marks on the rear bumper. I'm sitting here thinking WTF? I didn't do anything to it and now I have to fill out an accident report on it. Seems kind of fishy. What do you guys think?

Re: Rental Cars

If it smells like a fish...

They signed off on the return walkaround, so I'd stick by that.

Re: Rental Cars

Yah, they should have told you on the spot of return.
A credit card should cover some of damage if needed.
Good luck. :smokin:

Re: Rental Cars

^^^ What they said. They can't blame you now it's too late, unless you signed your soul off to them in something earlier.

Re: Rental Cars

"buying a car form a rental car place is like finding a wife at a whore house"

I know it doesn't really apply here but I thought I would throw it out there.

I would say you're covered with the signed off turn in inspection. If you still have a copy of that, show it to the rental place and that will clear your name. Is the car rental place a legit palce (hertz,Avis etc) or was it Habib's car rentals. If it is a legit place it shouldn't be an issue.

Re: Rental Cars

If your company took care of it and paid for it then simply turn over your paperwork to your company's attorney. If they signed off on it there's no way they can hold you liable for damage that they, in writing, said you didn't cause.

On another note: what rental company did you use?
