My dog was attacked

I went to pick up my mail, as I usually do, right after I got home from work, took my dog with me like normal as well. Well, I get to the mail area, and this woman who has 2 dogs was in there and wasn't leaving. I waited for a few seconds and she didn't leave. Stupid woman, she's told me before her dog was attacked so I always avoid her so as not to freak her dog out, right? Well rather than leave the mail area, she stands around, and then one of her stupid dogs attacks my dog, while I'm holding him! Her little dog jumped up and grabbed my dogs foot. So I'm trying to figure out what to do, b/c I don't want to get in the middle of this little vicious dog, and my poor dog doesn't know what to do, he's never had this happen before. So I go to kick her dog b/c he's hanging in air on my dog's foot and he finally let's go. I figure my dog's fine, but as we walk away I notice he's bleeding, so I pick him up again and she's trying to apologize and shit (excuse the language, I'm still pretty pissed), and I'm just like "leave me alone, it's ok", thinking "I'm pregnant, and this dog's heavy, stop talking!". Now I'm trying to figure out if I should report this to the front office, b/c this woman has mean dogs and she's taking them to public areas. My poor dog is still freaked out, but luckily he's so sweet he didn't go after the other dog. He probably would've defended himself if he'd been on the ground.

Do you guys think I should tell the leasing office?

Re: My dog was attacked

I would definitely make a complaint. I love animals, but this lady doesn't seem like a responsible owner.

I would work a deal and see if she'll pay for any vet bills in lieu of making an complaint. Sorry that happend.

Re: My dog was attacked

^ Agreed (with rallychic)... normally I am all for handling things myself, not complaining to others, not suing, etc, but I had a similar experience and I feel the need to share what I learned. About 4 years ago my dog (who lived with my grandfather since I was at college then) was attacked by his neighbor's pitbull. It took three men and a hammer to get that monster off of my dog and it nearly killed her (my dog). My grandfather, wanting to be a nice neighbor, didn't immediately report the incident to the police even though he was pissed as hell. The neighbor apologized profusely and paid for my dog's vet bills to get her stitched up and everything seemed fine at the time, but the neighbor never learned to control the f'n beast. It would constantly get out, was unsupervised, and would wreak havoc on the neighborhood. It nearly attacked another neighbor's dog too. Long story short, when all of the neighbors started to complain and call the police, the police said they needed at least three complaints on record before they could come out and do anything about a misbehaving dog. In the mean time, it could attack more dogs, scare children (or worse), and terrorize the community. Finally they got the three complaints on record and it still took a lot of pressure from the neighborhood before these idiots would control their dog. Thankfully they moved since then, but my dog was never the same after the attack.

So yeah... this is obviously not a responsible owner and a complaint should definitely be made at LEAST to the leasing office. Dogs need responsible owners, otherwise they can be a neusance or a danger. What if the dog jumped on you and you fell, hurting the baby? There are countless things that could go wrong with unpredictible dogs and there should be a record of it. Make the lady's life uncomfortable and maybe she'll control her animals.

Re: My dog was attacked

Her dogs were on a leash, but it still concerns me a little, for her to be walking those dogs around where other people walk their dogs, especially if her dogs keep attacking other dogs. I think I'll go up to the front office tomorrow and just tell them about it, they're closed right now, just so they know.

Re: My dog was attacked

Report it. *A leash doesn't mean she's in control of the dog.

We had neighbors with a giant Golden retriever that would break his CHAIN and terrorize the neighborhood. *One time, I even witnessed this dog pull a garage door off it's tracks because I passed by his house on the street with my dog. *After six documented attacks, the police still wouldn't do anything and animal control was literally afraid to do anything with this dog. *This dog even went after my cat... after a brief encounter, the dog ran off with a big gash in his nose - My cat was an absolute monster. *The neighbor tried to sue us for vet bills but then had to drop the case after we pointed out all the complaints. *Eventually, this dog wound up dead in the street with gun shot wounds! *The neighbors left the neighborhood shortly after that.

Eat right, exercise regularly, die anyway.

Re: My dog was attacked

I'd report it without question!

I'm an animal lover myself so I can understand that certain dogs may be more aggressive than others, but she shouldn't be taking that dog out if she knows it's aggressive. Luckily it sounds like her dog is pretty small, but it can still cause injury (as displayed today). Reporting it will just force her to take greater percautionary methods with her dog, and also create awareness in the neighborhood. I'm sure she loves her dog as much as you love yours... so she wouldn't want to have this happen again (if you report it), because it would run the risk of her losing her dog.

Re: My dog was attacked

wow what a great thread.. such a waste!!!! so what your dog is hurt! poor baby!

lol j/p well its kinda hard to say but i would report it, if it can hurt a dog maybe it can hurt a kid trying to touch it..... but as far as your dog i would take it in to get it check just in case the dog that raped him has something.... better safe than sorry, even more that you have a kid on the way..

good luck with that.
