After the movie ended, my girlfriend asked me if I liked it. I said "I'm not sure." I still feel that way several days later.
It was obviously trying to make a political point. It was a point that I don't agree with. But I thought the movie itself was pretty good. I liked how it showed both the US gov and the Islamic fundamentalists use people to acheive their goals. Clooney got used and thrown away when the .gov didn't like the result of a mission it sent him on, and those two muslim kids were preyed upon because they were poor, unemployed, and had no prospects for a future. So I like that, I liked the acting and the writing, and I liked how all the different plot lines were really just branches of the same story and were all connected. but the overall message of the film was just something that I didn't care for politically.
As far as the direction goes, I don't like how this guy works. I get that he's trying to show how all of these different people are connected, and trying to avoid just spoonfeeding the story to you, but I think that the way they jump around you never really get a sense for who some people are and what their purpose is. I suppose that's how it is in real life, but I personally just don't dig it too much on the screen.
So it was good. I liked some aspects of it and disliked others. Did I like the movie? I don't know.
