Happy holiday season...or unhappy....

This year looks to be an UNhappy holiday season for me...I was laid off this past week from my helpdesk job. I have done a lot of work filing for unemployment, etc. but I may have to sell my MR2 soon if I cannot get a position within the next few weeks. Because I have a workman's comp. claim for a back injury open with my most recent employer, I am unable to get a job in the interim doing anything that involves picking things up/putting things down repetitively. yeah, I hurt my back at work and then they laid me off. As some of you know, I have been having troubles with my new manager (as have most others at my old job), so this came as no real surprise for me. I have been looking for a new position for about a month, but still nothing compatible with my needs.

In short...I can't buy any holiday ifts for my friends and family, and uhm if anyone knows of any helpdesk jobs in the central CT and surrounding areas, please email or PM me lol.

Regardless, I do hope everyone ELSE has a good holiday season this year!

Go and get this book: "Knock Em Dead 2005". It is a comprehensive guide to getting a better job, and it covers all the bases, like when you get laid off.

Learn the rules for creating a better resume and putting together a job search campaign. Also, you may want to try working for yourself as a computer help person. I make 31.50 an hour as a professional writer, but I make 50-75 an hour as a pc technician, helping people out in their homes or businesses with computer problems.

Thanks, Grey! I'll have to check that book out ASAP. My resume is good, I have been told, but any help is welcome!

Re: Happy holiday season...or unhappy....

My software dev group just dumped someone this week too. I think people are starting to look at the end of year bottom line and they're whacking headcount to make their numbers. Which is just the worst thing to do at this time of year.

Good luck you guys...

Re: Happy holiday season...or unhappy....

A lot of people at my company working in another project stream got laid off last week. It was pretty harsh. The other projects on site tried to save as many people as possible by filling roles that were really only half-necessary but forty-odd people are still out of work this Christmas. What's really odd is that I'm a subcontractor at this company and they are laying off their actual employees instead of me. I've been there longer than most people and technically I'm not even an employee. :?
