CHRISTMAS - it's now a dirty word

For the politically correct, "Christmas" trees have been replaced by "Holiday" trees.*

http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/...g-debate_x.htm

Absolutely ABSURD, I say.* This whole "Politically Correct" movement reminds me of a bad bowel movement. As in, you can't wait for it to end. What's your opinion on this topic?*

Re: CHRISTMAS - it's now a dirty word

I agree... this is a bit absurd. I don't get it... are there loads of Jewish people putting up Christmas trees but don't want to acknowledge it's got a predominately Christian background?

Re: CHRISTMAS - it's now a dirty word

I would really love to hear from someone how seeing a "Christmas" tree offends them. *The holiday is celebrated by a large chunk of the population. *Even those who don't consider themselves Christians celebrate the non-religious parts of the holiday, such as the tree and presents and getting together with family. *Hell, those aspects of the holiday are just part of an old pagan winter holiday that Christians took over to convert them. *

Does it ACTUALLY offend people to see the word "Christmas" or to see decorations around town? *Or do they just have a chip on their shoulder?

Re: CHRISTMAS - it's now a dirty word

why are you getting so upset about them calling ti a holiday tree, and NOT pissed off at cocacola for the image of santa clause they MADE UP to match their product colors (which are convieniantly now the colors of christmas) or HELL why arent you even pissed at the very IDEA of santa clause being part of your christmas holiday....

theres nothing i hate more than people who get pissed off about something when theres things pertaining to the same subject 10,000 x worse....

its kinda like if you were to get pissed off at the "holiday bunny"... and not be pissed about little kids running around hunting eggs and eating marshmellow chicks...

lets get pissed off at the little shit and ignore the shit you really SHOULD be pissed off about

This is a debate about the regilious aspect of Christmas, not the corporate prostitution of the holiday. We all know that goes on and it's simply clever business tactics which some may or may not be opposed to. What we are expressing is our displeasure at having to tone down Christian holidays because some of the minority do not see it as we do. In other words, it's reverse religious discrimination. Because one doesn't approve, all have to preverbially pay for it. The corporitization of the holiday sseason is not 10,000 times worse. Losing the holiday entirely because the whinings of a few is far worse.

It's a purely Christian holiday (as much as other people like to celebrate it too). Getting rid of the "Christmas" in the name gets rid of the rich background behind it too. That's like saying Happy Day instead of Columbus Day. People are going to have no clue why the hell the day even exists. Holiday Trees tell nothing of the history of the tradition that they represent.

I couldn't care less about what colors Coca-Cola puts on Santa, it doesn't destroy the image of Santa. And btw, I'm not Christian so I'm not trying to defend my own beliefs, but this action is simply retarded.

Re: CHRISTMAS - it's now a dirty word

This BS stems from immigrants that come into this country and then demand that we abandon our religious roots.* "In God We Trust" has been on US currency for MANY years, and non-christians (both immigrants and natives alike) are now demanding that be removed as well.* I'm not trying to lump everyone into one pile, but those that ARE crossing our borders and then stirring up this rediculous rant about us 'forcing our religion down your throats' better start thinking about why they came to America to begin with.* Apparently, if things didn't really SUCK in your home country, you wouldn't have come here.* I say if you're going to immigrate to America and enjoy all the rights and privileges of citizenship, you better be prepared to embrace, or at least tolerate / ingnore our customs and get it out of your head that you're going to force your faith (or lack of) down our throats.* As for the natives that want to 'de-religion' the country, nobody's forcing you to put a tree in your living room, give your family presents, or use US currency.* Like anyone else, when you see something you don't like or agree with, feel free to ingore it rather than try to take it away from the people who do observe it as American heritage.
