LOL check this out.

http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=500

Goes to show what sort of shit people talk on forums all day .

"All that hype for an MP3 player? Break-thru digital device? The Reality Distiortion Field™ is starting to warp Steve's mind if he thinks for one second that this thing is gonna take off." :lmao: What an idiot.

I'm not into iPods myself, I'm more of a satellite radio man.

I'm not either....but that doesn't change the fact that iPods are the shit whether we like to admit it or not.

Re: Read People's First Comments About iPod In October 2001

I work for the Feds and they block all on-line radio (especially Sirius). I also took a new position and now ride Metro 45 minutes (one way). My iPod has every CD I ever bought in it (isn't full yet) and I'd be miserable without it. The other day, an angry rapper got on the traom and proceeded to entertain us with a little ditty. I just upped the volume a little and went back to sleep. Sometimes you need to be isolated from the world.

Meh I'm not really into the portable music thing. The only time I listen to music is in my car. We have 30 GBs of music at work and we can listen to whatever the hell we want...and I don't listen to anything. I don't even listen to music at home.

I don't know what it is but I've never liked listening to music while doing certain things. Especially when walking down the street, I need to be hearing everything that goes on around me.

I was never in my life into the portable music thing... until I moved to a city. I don't go ANYWHERE without an iPod anymore (just bought my first, and definitely not last, iPod a couple months ago).

Anyway I'd love to contact these guys and see what they think of their comments now

"I'd call it the Cube 2.0 as it wont sell, and be killed off in a short time..."

Haha... that's funny. I have a 20GB iPod and I love it. I used about 9.5GB which is about 2500 songs. I usually have it in my car broadcasting over my fm transmitter and charger. It's great, its like listening to my own satellite radio, but I can change it to any song I want at any time.

Re: Read People's First Comments About iPod In October 2001

I never have known what the hype was about iPods, or any Apple product.

Apple is by no measure a revolutionary company in terms of hardware or software, only in terms of marketing. Their products are never anything new or special, just packaged/marketed in a different way. Recent example: my boss bought a copy of MS Office for his Mac laptop. Every other MS product, just comes in a normal frickin box, but this (single CD) was packaged in a shiny, round plastic container, with all sorts of funky colors and logos; inside of this was a fancy clamshell that suspended the CD (tilted at an angle), and was held closed by a sort of plastic "belt" that clipped to itself via carefully molded tabs and snaps. Classic Apple-- package the "same old, same old" in something new and shiny, and pretend you invented the entire frickin industry. Do I harbor a bit of distaste for Apple? Nah...

Sounds like the people on that forum were just people who weren't swayed by Apple's ability to market to the tech-naive masses.

I love my ipod. It just took me a while to get into the whole mp3 player thing. something like 4 years ago, my ex wanted an mp3 player and i couldn't figure out why he wanted one, when it only held a few cds.

Except they did invent the entire industry. The mp3 player may have existed before apple, but practically nobody gave two shits about it. It's rare that the first company to invent some type of thing is the company that ends up the dominant one. Marketing rules the world.
On the other hand, Apple WAS the first company to make an mp3 player with a hard drive in it and a good interface (and I'd argue, still by far the best interface), and tied into software on the computer (still the best link). They may not have invented mp3's, but they sure reinvented the industry.
