car salesman

how the heck do those people get their jobs? out of all the lots I have gone to and salesmen I have spoken to I can count on one hand the ones that actually knew anything about cars. That is completely messed up. The ones at new car lots are the worst. One of them actually wanted to give me $5k for my in almost perfect condition Si. Most dont even know the engines or specs of the cars they are selling. I saw a '04 OZ edition lancer tagged for over $14k with over 25K miles. Im pretty sure you can get a brand new one for that price.

When I was shopping for my 3, I drove a Tiburon... after the drive, I tell the salesguy as nicely as possible that it was the most impotent v6 I'd ever driven, he comes out, walks around the car, studies the sticker... "oohhhh, my bad. that was the 4-cylinder" I felt kind of stupid too for believing it was a 6 for more than a few seconds.

Re: car salesman

OMFG, lol....its ok the V6 modles only have 15x hp i think...i almost got one to, it was a V6 5sp, pretty nice, got to the place, took keys and when i was about to start it up, my dad noticed the front tires were of a different BRAND then the rear tires(which were stock), then i started the car, and you could hear the LIFTERS CLICKING, i was like WTF is this...the guys like, oh hmm, he went into his little shed and got a bottle of off brand WD-40 and sprayed some random shit in teh engine bay which did absolutely nothing, at this point i was laughing my ass off, cuz i knew whoever traded in this Tiburon, obviously smoked the tires to shit, which is why they were diff than the rears, and by doing this they damaged the lifters, and on top of it, some guys trying to WD-40 it....well so much for that car

Re: car salesman

The guy I test drove the Mustang GT with seemed to know a little bit about the car.

The Mazda guy didn't know too much. But he just came over from Chevy/Pontiac.
The VW guy didn't know squat.
The Honda guy was pretty cool. But tried to tell me the Accord Coupe was going to be very limited production, like each dealer only gets 2-3 if they'er lucky...

Re: car salesman

Lots of them do it because it's an easy job to make money on. They sit around most of the day doing little, getting paid for it, then make a commission off of spewing as much appealing, senseless drivel as they can muster to the uneducated consumer (most buyers don't know as much about cars as we do). It's an easy job the requires little specialized training.

Side note: I almost bought a yellow SRT-4 when they were introduced. I went to Bonneville Dodge in Manchester, NH and had the salesman tell me: "This car is built just like the Winston Cup cars are built. Everything is like it is on the Dodge Winston Cup car." All I said to the poor slob was, "Wow, even the intercooler?!" and he nodded in which I replied, "Funny, because NASCAR doesn't allo 4-cylinders, especially turbos to race."

Re: car salesman

I test drove at three different dealerships before buying and I knew more about the car than any of them except MAYBE the first. The third guy realized this and just gave me the keys and said to be back in 30 mins! ;-)

Re: car salesman

Dealership told me they hadn't sold a car all month when I went to look at a 3. Not something to say to someone with an 84 t-bird and 500 down to trade. Took a car that night...idiots.

Re: car salesman

Being* a car salesman is not easy.
The dealership environment is one of the worst to work in.
They push sales.* Some salesmen even have to make cold calls to find a consumer. Also, standing around for hours is hard.
I got fired because I sat down for 10 min. in a 10 hr shift!
And sales do not come easy, especially in a dealership where you compete with many other salespeople.* You might make some money some months and NOTHING in others!
Worst yet you need to stretch the truth to people.*
Emotions will sell a car so sales people manipulate that and oversee the actual info they should know about the cars.
Either way, the dealers have what you want and they will "sell you out" when you buy.* That means they will win either way, by financing at a bit higher rate, yourundervalued trade in, incentives that they keep, etc.
In a way the dealers are more responsible for the all the bad car experiences and not as much the salesmen.* You will get PIMPED by the time you walk out with a car, even if you don't know it.* A sad true fact!
