Honeymoon or Not?

Do you want to go on a honeymoon? Do you think it's about spending some quality time with your new spouse or is it strictly about money for you and whether it will affect buying something in the future?
Also, where do you want to go or where did you go?

I explained to my bf that I'd like to spend some quality time together after we got married before the baby came and asked if he'd like to go on a honeymoon and he said "well we'd have to put off buying a house for a while" and "do you know how much cribs are?" How can I convince him that I'd like some good loving before the baby comes and some nice quality time without the money factor coming in? I didn't even ask for anything extravagant, heck I mentioned a hotel for 2 nights. It's just frustrating communicating with someone who isn't romantic sometimes

I have zero interest in marriage, so I guess not!

Re: Honeymoon or Not?

isn't honeymoon supposed to be a gift from the groom's parents? the bride's parents pay for the wedding, the groom's pay for the hunnaymoon, it should even out, no?

Doesn't usually happen that way in the US.

Re: Honeymoon or Not?

that's what my GF told me...* She got her dad to agree with her, too.* And seems like movies (father of the bride, and others) support that arrangement too, no?

If not a gift, he should still not be allowed to object as long as you keep the costs reasonable, under 5k or smth...

PS: otherwise, why bother with it at all: ring, wedding -- the whole thing , it's just extra expense, if you keep looking at it that way.

Re: Honeymoon or Not?

I don't know, I've never heard of it before. It'd sure be nice if that's how it was, but I got married before and it didn't happen then-I paid for the whole thing myself.

Re: Honeymoon or Not?

You might want to mention to both parents that a getaway somewhere nice might be nice as a wedding gift. This will solve the money issue and get you two out for a few days.

I think it would be nice to have the few days and just mention that it will do you both good to play for a few days!

Or make calls and see if anyone you know has a vacation home you can use for a few nights as another option. The sky is the limit and you should have some fun!

Oh you'll get the good lovin.....9 months before the baby comes!!

Seriously, how is a honeymoon gonna make you put off buying a house. Unless you're going for a 3 week tour around Europe or something. I mean, even if its 5,000, that much more on your mortgage, as opposed to down payment, won't amount to much on payments over the 30 years or so most mortgages last.
