You're Fired!!!

Have you ever had to fire someone?* What are your experiences with firing an employee?* What is the best way to do it?*

Discuss amongst yourselves.*

Re: Your Fired!!!

If you're letting them go immediately, with no notice, then bring them into your office on a friday afternoon and tell them to pack their shit up and get out. *It might ruin their weekend, but at least it gives them time to cool off and they don't go on an allnight bender and show up the next morning to shoot the place up. And if they do that anyway, at least you'll be at home.

If it's someone that you like an respect, however, then you're screwed. You just have to suck it up and be straightforward. Don't make small talk, just say "Because of X, we have to let you go."

Make sure you have ALL of their HR-related paperwork before hand. Nothing sucks more than having to call someone you just fired because you forgot to have them fill out a form.

Re: Your Fired!!!

Getting let go sucks. doing it on a Friday was even worse b/c you don't get that many jobs posted over the weekend so you're stuck all weekend doing nothing but worrying about finding a new job. i wasn't fired, but I was laid off from my first job out of college.

Do the "cobra" thing that Trump does. "(Insert name here), you're fired (cobra here)".

Re: Your Fired!!!

I learned along time ago not to hang out with employees outside of work and not to become TOO friendly with them just because I may have to fire them one day. I have to fire one today and possibly one tomorrow. I really don't feel bad about it. Its just one of the things that is in my job description. The one tomorrow if need be should be the interesting one though. She won't like it at all. LMAO.
