Got Speeding Ticket With A ERROR in NJ *HelP*

ok, im from NY and i am wondering if any of you uys here in jersey can help me out. i was on US-1 highway and got caught doing 70 on a 50 zone. everyone was doing that same speed but i end up getting pulled over cuz i was the onl car in the area.

here is the error on the ticket. i drive a Mazda 3. the thing is that i debadged the "3" logo on the trunk and put on the jdm badge which is called "Axela".

instead of putting "Mazda 3" under vehicle on the ticket, he put "Mazda Axe" and not "Axela".

with this error, do you think i can fight this ticket?

if not... how much points are gonna be in my records? will they give me points under NY points system or NY? or is it the same?

BTW, this is my first speeding ticket

Re: Got Speeding Ticket With A ERROR in NJ *HelP*

I got a parking ticket for my Strato 3 and they said it was a Blue Mercedes. I was like "This ticket is wrong...it says Blue Merc and I have a Purple (wink wink) Mazda...WTF?". They still made me pay it because everything else matched (i.e. license plate number). Sorry but I think you're still stuck with it.

Error on ticket or not doesnt mean anything. Your plate and Drivers License number will be on the ticket. Next time dont break the law. You can try and fight this ticket but it wont do you any good.

Yeah, you're stuck. *I don't know how they'll do the point thing, but I'd be willing to bet your home state gives you the points. *But there's always the chance that NJ doesn't hear about your transgression, so you may skate on the points. *In Ohio, you'd get 2.

i doubt it if they have your licence, plate number, and insurance i strongly doubt you'll be able to fight it because of that. Since you are out of state, tehre's a chance even if you had to pay a fine it might never show up in NY. If it does, usually out of state moving violations are typically less than the in state violation. best bet is to appear in court if you could. If the cop doesn't show up, the case is dismissed. If he does, sometimes they'll do a plea bargin with you (i got an 83 in a 55 bumped down to a $100 parking on the highway fine with no points). If that doesn't work you can always try convincing the judge that while you were speeding you were not endangering others around you.

FWIW: I know a chick (who is very obviously a fine looking chick) who got pulled over in PA a few years ago for speeding and the cop put Male on the ticket. That error got the ticket dropped in court... don't know if it could happen again there or anywhere else, but I do know it's happened.

Re: Got Speeding Ticket With A ERROR in NJ *HelP*

My advice: beg, bargain, and plead with the cop the moment you're getting your ticket. Anything you can haggle down on the spot is something that helps you - you won't lose that when you go the trial (hopefully!) - play your cards right.

I've had two tickets. Fought one off, lost the second.

The one I fought off the cop discounted on the spot; my Oldsmobile's spedometer was broken, and I was a brand new driver so I didn't realize that at the time - we're talking rank newbie. The argument worked, thankfully.

Second time the radar trap cop didn't sway at all (hello! wasn't the truck in the other lane going faster?)? But I noticed he wrote my license plate number wrong. I thought that would be my 'ticket' off the ticket.

No such luck - the justice/judge was a total jerk.

I was very tempted to appeal the verdict but got lazy and just grudgingly paid it. Perhaps I should have kept fighting it - oh well, felt like a waste of time, so time to move on.

NY and NJ do not have reciprocity... i.e. NY does not care what you do in NJ and will not put the points on your NY driving record.* NY actually doesn't care what you do in any state for that matter except Ontario and Quebec.* Why Ontario and Quebec?* I don't know....

Fyi.. I used to live in NY.

Yes, it means no points on your NY record, just hope your insurance company is lazy and doesn't check NJ records.
