Canadian Hockey Fans

Who's your favourite team?

Mine's the Leafs because I'm from the Toronto area.

What do you think of the other Canadian teams and how they will do? Who will be the best Canadian team?

I think the best Canadian team will be Calgary or Vancouver this year. It all depends on how Kippursof and Cloutier hold up and who is better.

I'm sad to say but I think the Leafs will barely make the playoffs and be booted in the first or 2nd round. :-(

Re: Canadian Hockey Fans

I think if Kipper is as solid as he was last year there is no comparison between him and Cloutier. But Vancouver is still a great team and a good hockey town. I really hope Calgary makes another run for the cup like last season, but im looking forward to see how Edmonton does as well as the Maple Leafs and Ottawa, the latter two teams had a shit load of trades and it will be interesting to see if they were smart ones. Heatley should be a force with Ottawa and I cant wait to see Lindros finally playing in Toronto.

Re: Canadian Hockey Fans

I'm a big Habs fan

I'm with budgy about Ottawa, I'm curious to see how they'll do this year with all the new additions. Also, Calgary looks solid as well.. good to see some excitement back in Alberta finally (hockey wise)

Re: Canadian Hockey Fans

Well there is defenitely gonna be a shitload of penalties becuase of some of the rule changes. There is also going to be a lot more goals because the redline is gone, less offside calles, restricted goalie movement etc. The fastest game on ice is going to be even faster and more exciting too watch IMO. Its just gonna take some getting used too.

Re: Canadian Hockey Fans

I've watched a few pre-season games, and I think 'its' working, the game is much faster and there are a lot more scoring opportunities.

One thing that bothered me.. every 30 seconds there would be whistle and the play would have to stop cause there is a penalty.Maybe.. this could change when players get accustomed to the new rules, I just didn't like how the play was stopped so often... it totally ruined any 'flow' that the game had

Re: Canadian Hockey Fans

I like most of the rule changes except for the restricted goalie movement. *Why don't we just say defenceman aren't allowed to go back into their own zone?

You can eliminate obstruction, get rid of the red line, but restricting player movement is a dumb idea. *

I think the first 1/4 of the season, the games will be very slow because of penalties, but as teams adjust, the game will get faster. *

Even though the Leafs are big and not as fast as a team like Ottawa or Calgary, I can see them scoring a lot of goals because the new obstruction rules will let Lindros, Allision, Sundin, Antropov and O'Neil to go to the net very easily. *

Re: Canadian Hockey Fans

what I would love to see is Ottawa finally get past T.O. to see if they can do anything useful. Every year for the past god knows how long Ottawa is one of the best teams pre-playoffs. They get creamed by T.O. but then T.O. loses the next round...I would love to see Ottawa finally get a shot at the 3rd round.

Totally agree about there being less penalties as players adjust to the new rules. At the same time those new obstruction rules are going to get bigger players like Lindros a ton of penalties

Re: Canadian Hockey Fans

Your gonna see alot of the big, slower defensemen that could dominate before with all the obstruction be totally exposed (someone like Derian "pussy" Hatcher) the rules (which aren't new rules) is going to force defenders to defend by skating. We're also going to see lots of defenders getting hammered and injured racing into the corners now that their goaltender can;t help them by fishing out the puck in the corners. but i think goalies (skilled ones) will adjust by getiing the soft dump ins before they cross the goal line., Considering myself a very traditionalist hockey fan, after watching half a dozen or so preseason games, with the exception of the "trapaziod" (I hate that friggin word) and still a little ify on the shoot out (we'll see when it affects who makes playoffs) i am very excited with what the game is shaping up to be (once all the penalties die down). I order NHL center ice, got my fridge stock full of beer, and counting down till tomorrow night.

Oh I'm not Canadian, hope you don't mind
