My family just doesn't have good luck with Mazdas

Another Mazda forcefully removed from the family after mine was totalled at the end of April

This time it was a 2003 Protege 5. My mom was driving. The person in front of her made an abrupt U turn, she hit her brakes pretty hard successfully avoiding the person in front and coming pretty much to a stop. A Ford F-250 behind her was not as quick, probably wasn't paying attention at all, and slammed the back of her car going 35-45 mph according to the other driver. She was airlifted out to the nearest trauma center for possible head injuries, but she is doing ok. No broken bones and no major head injuries, probably just a concussion. Although they think she may have had a minor heart attack in the process.

and the minimal damage to the other guys truck

On the down side aero-medical flights are usually around $8,000. On the up side flight company's love car accidents because they get to bill the auto insurance companies to recoupe costs. Hopefully that will come out of the other guy's insurance. I've seen far too many accidents like that end badly so I'm glad to hear your mom's doing okay.

Unfortunately it comes out of our insurance even though it was the other guy's fault. His insurance will pay for the car, but your own insurance always picks up your medical costs. It really sucks, damn no fault law. But if you sue, you can recoup those costs. Not sure if she will go that route, but we'll be talking to a lawyer who's a friend of the family for advice. Another FL stipulation is that you cannot sue unless you have permanent injuries or undergo surgery. Neither of those conditions have been ruled out, she can't currently eat in case she needs to go into surgery and her back is killing her.

If she's going to get one of those, I'll have her take over my payments and give me the insurance check, which should be about 5k (I put down 6200), give her my 05 SP23 and get something better. But we likely won't get a car too soon. Her sister, my aunt, just got an 05 Avalon and is going to give us her old car which is about an 00 Saturn. She was planning on flying up to Maryland on Tuesday and driving the car back to Florida but that isn't happening. We'll get the other guy to pay for the plane ticket she had for Tuesday but can't use too. We needed another car for the family sometime, but I doubt she'll be going back to work anytime soon, so we won't need it until she goes back. Maybe I'll give her my car and get a new car anyways.

Not to rub salt, but good luck finding an SP23 right now. That's what I had been looking for before I got my hatch, but I waited too long and by the time I got back in the pool, they had all swam away.

Ya, I already own one. I mean she would essentially buy my SP23 from me and I get to purchase a new car. Not saying I don't love the 3 and that there is anything that can touch it for the price, but I want RWD and over 200hp. But we have to see about that because her left leg is injured and my car is a stick, so we have to see what's wrong with her leg before she makes any decisions. She really liked my car and mentioned that, so we shall see.
