I love my Canon a95. I got it for just over $200 a few months ago. Canon makes great camera with excellent features for a reasonable price. Checkout http://dealcam.com for good prices and some reviews of pretty much everything out there.

I would also recommend the Canon A95 for about $250, its just about the best camera out there for that price with enough features to keep you learning in a couple months.

I personally love my Canon A75, but I think my next camera will be a Kodak.

I love my Kodak dx6490 but the replacement (dx7590?) is outta your range. I think they have a little cheaper model out that is sort of eqivelent. I still find myself using my old olympus 1.3mp camera becacause it does an excellent job for indoor shots.

There are some really good reviews here and pretty helpful forums as well for camera's
