Politics on The Front Line in Iraq.

A Marine squad was marching north of Basra when they came upon an insurgent soldier badly injured and unconscious.

Nearby, on the opposite side of the road, was an American Marine in a similar but less serious state. The Marine was conscious and alert.

As first aid was given to both men, the Marine was asked what had happened. The Marine reported, "I was heavily armed and moving north along the highway and coming south was a heavily armed insurgent. Seeing each other we both took cover.

I yelled to him that Saddam Hussein was a miserable low-life scumbag, and he yelled back that Teddy Kennedy is a rich good-for-nothing fat drunk.

We were standing there shaking hands when a truck hit us."

Re: Politics on The Front Line in Iraq.

That's funny. Eleanor Roosevelt told a joke once (I doubt she made it up, but she repeated it in a speech) that was similar.

I paraphrase from what I remember seeing on the History Channel:

During the intense fighting on Iwo Jima, and American Marine told his sgt that he was having trouble seeing the Japanese soldiers. His sgt told him to yell "to hell with Tojo" and the Japanese soldiers would jump up in anger and then he could shoot them. So he heads out into the fighting and comes back a while later. "What happened," the sgt asked. "Well, I crept out and yelled 'to hell with Tojo', and they jumped up and yelled back 'to hell with Roosevelt.' Dammit sarge, I just couldn't bring myself to shoot a fellow Republican."

Even though I'm a Democrat, pro-gun, and have close ties to Massachusetts, I think that first joke by Olive Drab is hilarious!
