A Tribute chases me on Highway, Tributes have some pep!

So I work overnight on weekends and I was on my way to work last night at 10 o'clock.* I was on the interstate and almost to work. So I speed up to 70mph to allow time to stop for food before work. (normally I'm at 55-60 mph to max my MPG) So I'm minding my own business, making my way through the sparse traffic on the highway, signalling and passing here and there. It's 3 lanes, 4* in some spots.

Then I notice to the right and rear of me is an SUV speeding up through traffic as I'm passing people and keeping up with me.* I'm thinking "what the heck is this guys problem?".* So then he gets behind me and then to the right and comes up just behind me in the right lane. I'm in the middle lane.

So I decide to keep going my own way and kinda see what his deal is also.* I signal and move into the left lane to pass the car in front of me. Now the Tribute is 2 lanes over to my right.* I decide to speed up a little and pass the car in the middle lane. I pass and move back into the middle lane cause of where I'm going to work.* And there he is, the Tribute sped up and kept in the right lane and was now right next to me.* I glanced over to see what his problem was and he turned his head and looked at me like he was trying to prove something with his Tribute, WTF?* He then kept going faster.* I had to exit soon to the far right lane so I got into the left lane, sped up and got back into the middle, then right lane and got into the exit lane.* The Tribute proceeded to go faster down the interstate as I exited.

I don't know what his problem was.* I didn't realize Tributes could drive like that.* I mean at the most he had the 200-hp 3.0L V6.* Oh well.* Just thought I'd share that story.

Re: A Tribute wants to race me? Is it possible?

My mom has an Escape with the V6 and it's very peppy for an SUV. It surprised me the first time I drove it! It blew the doors away over her old Mazda Navajo... that thing had the acceleration of a school bus and it sounded like it too!

ah, "street race" threads go in the lounge....... I guess if you had just framed this as a discussion about how peppy a Tribute is it'd stay here... but we'd like to keep discussions about the type of of driving experience you described in the lounge.

Re: A Tribute wants to race me? Is it possible?

That is interesting, probably a guy on an ego trip or something. I get a lot of those guys trying to chase me on the freeway, heaven forbid a girl go faster and drive better then them.

I was waiting in a lineup to get on the freeway after school and some fools in a 3i bypassed the lineup and tried to cut in. I was pissed because they should wait like everyone else so when we started to move he tried to get in front of me but I kept up with the car in front of me so he had to hit his breaks . Then the stupid van in back of me couldn't go fast enough so he was behind me, once he was there his friends started screaming and throwing their hands in the air. I was laughing because it was so ridiculous, untill I got onto the inramp and left him in my dust because i'm sure he has an auto.

Then I get up to around 70 and I see him right behind me tailgating and then he tries to pass me. All I had to do was tap the gas and shut him down and then some cars got in between us so I lost him. I was glad because I think he was trying to play with me or something. Then when I was almost home I see him behind me all of the sudden and his friends started screaming again like they had gotten me but it was just as I was at my onramp so i'm sure they were dissapointed. It was a pathetic sight, and it makes me sad about the people who buy this car.

Hey c'mon, it wasn't a STREET RACE. I was on the highway, and I wasn't racing him at all. I was minding my own business and he was following me fast and keeping up. I merely was moving through traffic normally, just a little bit faster, to get to the exit I needed to for work. I was just experimenting to determine if he was really trying to race me. He might have had an ego trip, or was just trying catch up and check out my Mazda 3

And now that you say it, this CAN be considered a discussion about how peppy Tribute's are! That's exactly what the main point of my story is, didn't you get the drift? LOL I don't really mind that you moved it too the lounge, but DON'T call it a "street race", that's NOT what it was. Thanks.

Re: A Tribute chases me on Highway, Tributes have some pep!

Yep - definitely *not* a street race. It was basically an immature driver (in the MZ Tribute) and Dan trying to avoid being run off the road! haha

Yes, most smaller SUVs have some good 'pep' as most of them are V6s. However, the faster they go, the more gas/$$ they burn. haha

It took me $35 for 12 gallons to fill up my MZ3 today at $2.89. Just figure what Tribute owners are paying?

Overall, good to know the whole Mazda line lives up to the pep of 'zoom-zoom'.

Re: A Tribute chases me on Highway, Tributes have some pep!

I think you guys are applying your own term for "street racing" which differs from what we're looking out for. "Racing" is derived from the tone of your post indicating you were driving fast in comparison with someone else... and it sounded more like a road raged Tribute Driver than an anecdote about the performance potential of a Tribute.

Having terms like these make your thread a "street racing thread":
"chasing",
"I decide to take it up to XXmph and pass...", or
"because I really gunned it and then..."

Te thread takes on connotations that you and some other person were driving in an exhibition of speed on public roads... and those type of threads go in the lounge. The idea is that if an individual pictures two cars jockeying for position while reading your post - it's a race... and people looking in some of our forum sections have been very vocal about how they just don't want to read about this type of stuff while attempting to learn about cars.

Hey Holeydonut..... You're ruining my thread. I don't need this crap about how people who want to learn about cars, blah blah. It's a lounge, that's what it's for. If you want to think it was a race, then whatever. It wasn't, I can tell you that. You weren't there.

If I get anymore defaming posts I will close this in my own way.

Re: A Tribute chases me on Highway, Tributes have some pep!

well since your post is littered with "what's his problem" I would count this as a street race thread and not about the car. I mean you call him weaving in and out of traffic but since he was following you according to your statements you were weaving too . I mean don't you think it's a little silly since I'm sure the people around you that you were passing probably said that about you too even if you were signalling(which i respect you for doing since a lot of people don't).

Anyhow, ya i think Holey was in the right here but ya those SUV's can go pretty good until you gotta take a real good turn...there's a reason you don't see too many SUV in autox
