google talk sucks

I know I'm going to get flamed for this, because google is god blah blah blah, but gtalk blows. It's like AIM circa 1996. Yeah it's a nice clean interface - it's also totally lacking in features or any kind of readability of messages. Not to mention requiring you to have a gmail account.

The one thing I like about it is the snap to grid functionality - every app, including the OS, should have that. It's nothing unique or special or new, just not something most apps take advantage of.

Agreeance

I, too, was pretty disappointed. I expected more from Google.

Re: google talk sucks

Well this is their first attempt, and with most other products from Google it will improve greatly in the next few releases. I still use Skype for 5 user conferencing, and I will stay with that until a better solution for 5-15 people comes out.

[/quote] they can expect people to move over from aim. people have moved from one thing to another all the time... if they didn't, nothing new would ever get used, yet people use firefox, thunderbird, trillian, google, gmail, etc. none of those things were the first to do what they do, yet millions of people use them all.

GTalk vs AIM is a little different than those examples, in my opinion. Unless I can talk to AIM people using GTalk I will have no reason to switch. Unless all 200 people on my AIM buddy list start using Gtalk at the same time, I'd have to use two chat clients which I am not willing to do. Switching to Firefox and Thunderbird was a lot easier because I can still communicate with email contacts and tour the web when I switch.
