Moores Shou Shu Karate

Has anyone heard or better yet trained in this style Karate?

The reason I am asking is that I go for my first private next week. I have checked online and gotten mixed reviews. Some good, some bad.

If your looking for a hobby or a way to stay fit then I say go for it. If your trying to learn if for self defense or for fighting skills then I say no.

Re: Moores Shou Shu Karate

"standard" Martial arts like kung fu, Karate, Tae kwon do are all kinda of martial arts that to be Effective the person needs to be an expert and practice 4 hours every day for 20 years, yes it will help you in a fight because you'll have a better mindset and training but still not very "effective." the new wave is all the MMA (Mixed Martial arts) type styles that associate Boxing, kicking, ground fighting and such. those are effective, this is just my opinion but if your really looking for somewhere you can learn to fight would be Krav maga, Brazilian Jui jitsu, Pankration/kickboxing, muaythai/muay boran. and just plain boxing is effective. Dont get wrong i'm in no way saying people who do kung fu or karate and such can't fight or those martial arts suck, im just saying the styles that cross train and mix styles are a better choice.

Yeah id say if you wanna learn how to fight take something more practical, like boxing, kickboxing or even Judo.

If it's effectiveness you want, look into a style called Smith & Wesson.
It's western style fighting, so it isn't very heavy on kicks, holds, jumps & punches -- but it works really well.

Carry many baby scorpions in your pockets. When someone threatens you, grab a handful and throw them. It always works.
