2 tires and alignment $1400!!!!!!

I work at Rockville Porsche/Audi as a service writer for the Porsche side. Got a customer with a 04 Porsche 911 GT2. Has about 9000 miles on it. Came in for a LOF and noise on turns.
Tech gets car on lift and we find the rear tires worn to the cords on the inner tread... The noise is the limited slip chattering due to uneven wear on tires.....
Got price for his rear tires, Michelin Pilot Sport 315/30 ZR18, $445 each plus mount/bal and alignment $1400 total!!!!!!
Gotta love super exotic cars!!!!!!

Re: 2 tires and alignment $1400!!!!!!

just out of curiosity...what's the warranty on a GT2 like? It wouldn't make sense to me to have my alignment so out of whack after only 9000 miles that my tires were down to the cords.

Then again, if I had a GT2 I'd be tearing the living hell out of it on a track, which would pretty much negate any warranty or expectation of a problem-free car.

What kind of life do those tires normally get?

The tires on a GT2 have a expected life of less than 10000 miles... Remember its basically a track car liscenced for the street......

Yes, true C- think about oil and fluid change, brake service and tune up prices for porsches and the like.

I'd be on my 3rd set of tires already if I drove that car!!!

What's the use of happiness? It can't buy you money.
