Any Fans of Christian Music?

About two years ago, I strayed away from mainstream (secular) music due to the ridiculous lyrics and style of music popular on the radio. I used to own over 300+ hiphop/r&b cds. From Biggie to Tupac to Nas to Mobb Depp to Jill Scott to Mary Blige (you get the point). I reached a point where I just got SICK OF IT ALL and sold a few but mainly just gave away all my cds. I still have a plastic grocery bag of 50 or cds stored away that I just haven't disposed of yet (Anyone interested?) haha

Anyways, once I got serious about my faith two years or so ago...I made the switch to Christian music and have been smiling since. I never knew that Christian music had so many talents artists in all genres. I just got back from Creationfest 2005 (a Christian woodstock basically) where you camp for 4 days and listen to 20-30 live bands, speakers, etc. I saw some of the best musicians (drummers, bass players, guitar players, etc.) I've ever seen in a long time.

I know I'm in the minority (big time). Just go to any CD store and see how big the Christian section is. That is a whole different topic in itself. Just was curious if any other Christians are amongst this forum (Hi Fox Fader!) then myself.

Here are some of my favorite artists...

- Hiphop -

--- Cross Movement
--- KJ-52
--- Toby Mac
--- Ill Harmonics

- Modern Gospel/R&B -

--- Kirk Franklin
--- Out of Eden
--- Mary Mary
--- Debra Killings
--- Fred Hammod

- Alternative -

--- Thousand Foot Krutch
--- Kutless
--- Pillar
--- Relient K
--- MercyMe

- Worship -

--- Michael W. Smith
--- Steven Curtis Chapman
--- Casting Crowns
--- Newsboys

- Popish -

--- BarlowGirl
--- Stacie Orrico
--- Zoegirl

Hey Yennie - glad to hear your into the Christian music seen as well.

I do like Third Day as well, love Casting Crowns. MercyMe is good as well. Micheael W. Smith put on an AWESOME concert at Creation '05 this year!

My wifey is a fan of FFH - I'm not a big fan of Southern Gospel either. It seems your mainly into Contemporary Christian music, eh? No hiphop/r&b or alternative? Just curious. We might have to swap some cds.

@ velocity - Disturbed/Godsmack eh? Always the comedian, aren't ya? haha

Re: Any Fans of Christian Music?

Heeeeyyy ImportLuva4Life ..
I'm a christian too , but for some reason, I haven't been able to get 'hooked' on any christian music. I can't say that I'm a fan of it, but maybe I'm just not listening to the right stuff, so I'll definitly check out the artists you mentioned..

Oh and ditto about the secular music, couldn't agree with you more... it all seems to be soooo materialistic and 'of this world' ..

Re: Any Fans of Christian Music?

Switchfoot is known as a Christian rock/alternative group. Very good. And I saw them live in a small bar once by accident and they're extremely good live. You don't really know it's "Christian" music until you analyze the lyrics and here them in interviews...
