Video card/Computer issues

Whats up everybody! I've got a N Vidia video card. Ever since I installed it, I can't right click on my freaking desktop. It shuts down Windows Explorer completely. I tried uninstalling & reinstalling, but it won't work. Has anyone else experienced this problem b4? Any advice? I don't wanna have to call these people if I don't have to. THX

Re: Video card/Computer issues

So everytime you just right click on anything it shuts down? If so its probably someting wrong with the car..bad video memory or something. Generally if you have a bad video card or bad powersupply the computer will shutdown..return it..

What kinda card was in your comp before? an ATI, a really old Nvidia? If you didn't COMPLETELY remove the old driver there might be some conflicts. Best bet, boot into safe mode, remove all video drivers. Then reboot into normal mode and install clean drivers. Also get the new ones from nvidia site.

What model nVidia card?

Like someone else said, make sure you uninstalled all your drivers for the previous card and installed the latest drivers for the new card - you can get the last revision off of nVidias website, the ones included on the disk in the box usually aren't the most recent.

If that doesn't work, let us know.

The computer itself doesn't shut down. Just windows explorer, & it comes right back up by itself. It's the weirdest damn thing I ever saw. And it's not when I right click on anything, it's just when I right click on the desktop.

It's a nvidia 5500. Not the best one, but not the cheapest, either. I already got the lastest updates off the nvidia webstie, too. But when I went to install them, I got an error msg saying that the download I made wasn't for the right version of nvidia, all though it was! Ugh... BS

Re: Video card/Computer issues

Sounds like a driver issue for sure... Go through your add/remove programs and make sure you dont have any old video card software and what not on there...even remove the newest one that you have for the card..then use this to install.. http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_77.72.html (Assuming you have Windows XP)

Re: Video card/Computer issues

I don't recall where I read it, but supposedly the 5500's don't really get that much consideration when it comes to driver releases from NVidia. I think that's a card that NVidia is trying to forget...

What drivers did you install? The version on the cd that came with the card? Or did you dl them from NVidia's website?

Remove the card and uninstall all the nVidia drivers - I don't have the link on-hand, but I believe there's a tool to completely scour the nVidia drivers off your system. Go back to you old video card and see if the problem continues.

Already did. I uninstalled it & the problem went away. So I know it's the video card. I think I'm just gonna buy a new one. This one isn't that great anyhow! Thx for the help guys
