Linksys router firmware reflash help!

Maybe someone on here can help me out. We had a storm here the other night and after that my routers power light has been flashing. I went to linksys web site and found out that a blinking power light means that the router has lost its firmware. I went threw all the steps and nothing seems to be working. I downloaded the lastest firmware. I created a static IP address and changed my network card speed or media type from auto to 10mb helf duplex. I then used the ping command, which sent four packets to the router and recieved the packets. So I know my router is able to send and recieve. But when I go to flash the firmware I get "unabe to access the server". Is my router blown or does anybody have any other suggestions. Thanks

Re: Linksys router firmware reflash help!

Try clearing the router's memory first, by holding the "reset" switch on the back of the router for a few seconds until something happens (usually a bunch of blinking lights). Then let go.
Remove all connection to the router, except for a single PC. On this PC, go to the network properties and set the following for the ethernet device:

IP (static): 192.168.1.100
mask: 255.255.255.0
broadcast (if you have that option): 192.168.1.255
nameserver (DNS): 192.168.1.1
secondary DNS: leave blank

Now try running the router firmware update software again. Select the firmware .bin file that you want to flash it with. The "server" IP address is the address of the router, not your PC, so enter 192.168.1.1 for this (Linksys default).

Unless something else is wrong, this *should* work. If not, then try the following:

You should be able to access the router configuration menu from a web browser by typing in "192.168.1.1" in the URL line. Verify that the router is set to static IP (meaning DHCP is disabled!), and that the router accepts IP addresses starting at 192.168.1.100 (because this is what we used for your PC). Hit the "reset" switch on the router again, but don't hold it down this time -- we don't want to clear the settings again -- just do a hardware reset.

If that works, and you are able to flash it, then go back into the router setup menu and set it up however you had it before.
I hope it works out for you somehow...

Re: Linksys router firmware reflash help!

Thanks for the info, but still nothing. I think it must be blown out or something. It's weird I can ping the router but when I go to flash the router with the firmware I get unable to recieve responses from server.

Re: Linksys router firmware reflash help!

^^ Are you using the WEP security feature on your Linksys?? If so and you are getting dropped connections change the authentication settings on your network card to diable IEEE support and you should be good to go..if you arent using WEP and you are constantly getting dropped, then you either have the router in a bad location or you bought some cheap ass equipment

For the blinking linksys go buy a new one..the Linksys routers are a bitch to ever fix if youre firmware gets hosed.

Nope. And the other computer is only one room away. I need to change the channel but I've just been too lazy to look up the website the man gave me.
