any feedback to design?

hi, i work for the nigerian government and recently came accross an old bank account for our former leader. the problem is i need to steal this money w/o anybody knowing and i know you want some of this too or else you would have deleted this email a long time ago.

just kidding. ^_^

i really need some feedback on a couple of websites. i'm currently the only graphic designer for this small web company that handles e-commerce for entities like UMD terrapin club, sierra club, and some more. being the only designer means i pretty much have all creative control, but it sucks not having any peers with an eye for design critique and make comments about your work. the only feedback i really get is a yay or nay from my boss(es). since ive started working there, ive been tasked with redesigning their primary websites. first it was www.webgearstores.com (believe me, it was way worse), now i have to redo www.usptgear.com.

if you'd please, browse usptgear.com for a bit, and then take a look at some of the mockup pages i've been working on.
home page: http://www.usptgear.com/default-test3a.htm
product page: http://www.usptgear.com/product-test2a.htm
we also offer embroidery on the military clothes, and you get to select from a huge list of military logos and insignia. problem with my mockup redesign is the pull down list of logos messes up the table when viewed at 800x600 resolution. check it out at: http://www.usptgear.com/product-test-custom.htm

when you look through the HTML, yes i realize my code could be cleaner, but for now this is for the sake of getting the look down. any feedback on any gripes or positive comments are welcome. i just need a 3rd eye to glance over things. thanks.

Re: any feedback to design?

First site looks nice.

Second one seems to busy for me. With the main header and then the whole giant menu on the side its seems like to much. Maybe a split of the menu or changing the way its categorized might help. Such as making a horizontal and vertical menu? I dont know its a nice site just has to long of a menu.

Re: any feedback to design?

the original left-hand menu on usptgear.com was longer, in the redesign i moved some of the links to the top bar so it wouldnt be so long. what do you think of moving all the navigation to the top for the different branches of the military, and having pull down menus with sub categories for each military branch?

Re: any feedback to design?

^^ that would probably work out better. Dual meus is better than one huge ass menu

http://www.autotrimandsignic.com/ kind of like that site...which looks like hell right now

Re: any feedback to design?

thanks for all the opinions, have a look at the final design: www.usptgear.com
more consistent & less image heavy. kept many of the internal code that drives the store, but changed the formatting a bit. if i had more time and a better understanding of the store code, i'd have taken in a much better direction. thanks for looking ^_^
