Cell Phone Drivers

So I was driving home from work today. I leave the base onto a four lane road, rather busy roadway, on average (35-40 MPH). I'm in the right lane. The SUV, woman driving, by the way, suddenly comes to a complete stop for no apparent reason (no stop signs, person crossing the road, stop light, rabid squirrels). It's a big stinking SUV, so I can't see why she stopped, otherwise.

Traffic finally lets me get over in the left lane to pass her, and I come to find out she is on the cell phone, and "pulled over" to talk... on the road! Not one set of wheels on the berm or on the curb... in the middle of the right hand lane.

Now, I've come to accept the fact that until every state in this country outlaws cell phone usage (cell phone to ear) while driving, cell phones and driving are no longer the exception. And I highly respect those people who do pull over to the side of the road to talk, but FOR CRYING OUT LOUD, PULL YOUR HEAD OUT OF YOUR ASSES AND THINK ABOUT WHAT YOU ARE DOING INSTEAD OF WORRYING ABOUT YOUR CONVERSATION, YOU IDIOTS!

if you look it seems like half the people on the road are on their phones.....i used to be one of those people until i got a headset.... and now i don't know how i lived without it. it makes driving and talking so easy and so much safer

I try to only use my phone on the road by either using speakerphone or my bluetooth headset..I hate people that have one hand on the cell phone and one hand on the wheel and are never paying attention.

I drive with one hand on the wheel and one hand on my stick, I fail to see the difference between that and a cell phone in my right hand....

But either way I have a head set but I don't like to use the phone while driving because I have to turn down my spankin sub.

I have a problem with the fact that in some places it's illegal to be talking on the phone without a headset while you drive, yet it's perfectly ok to completely take your eyes off the road to dial the # you're calling.

I also don't like the fact that most places exclude cops from the rule. I've lost track of the number of times I've almost been hit by a doofus cop talking on his cell. Of course, in DC they really stretch the definition of "cop" for some of these people...I would put my life in the hands of a high school hall monitor before I would trust the DC police.

Its stupid for it to be ok for someone to talk on a headset but not phone to ear...

What's distracting people from the road is the conversation itself. Not the fact that they're physically holding the phone.

Think about it: Why do they outlaw cell phones while driving meanwhile they bombard the shoulder of the roads with huge signs for you to read??? It's just as distracting for someone to be trying to read a f'ing sign as it is someone talking on the phone. But phone talking isn't all. People do alot of things while driving. Such as digging in their car trying to find something. Switching radio stations, ect...

Cell phone users aren't the only idiots!!! If states wanna make cell phone talking illegal while driving, they need to take down those goddamn signs too!

That and people dialing their phones. Have to put their heads down or look at the phone in some manner to do that.

That's the most dangerous I think.
