computer help again...

LMAO my other computer has been completely overun by a virus/spyware or something. I turn it on and i get this message that my habits are being watch, etc, i figure its just some spyware and i go to click on my spyware remover and guess what! It doesnt work, no programs will load except for internet (how lucky) and everything i do redirects me to some spyware website to buy there crap, etc. I tried everything for about 40 minutes and i gave up, i did multiple restarts, tried to reset winsocks (didnt work), and tryed to reset my firewall, nothing... So help!?! I just now remembered computer restore, i hope that doesnt restore my computer to like a year ago or something. Any other ideas? Thanks

backup whatever u need then format. Then, before going on the internet after your fresh install, put on norton anti-virus, and then, without surfing the internet, go to windows update and get SP2 so you can turn on firewall. THEN you can go on safely. I do this and i have not once gotten attacked by spyware. Oh yea, run spybot and adware 6.0 every time u are done with the computer.. EVERY day.

Yeah, those new spywares are pretty good. They usually override existing system files to load @ startup, or at least get embedded so deep that you'll spend hours trying to figure things out.

This registry location (run regedit from the run menu) usually contains some stuff that is loaded at startup. You can try to delete things that look sucpisious

HKey_Local_Machine\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Run

But really, the new spyware things usually override the .dll files that Windows will load @ startup no matter what, or they'll corrupt existing system files and you'll never remove them without antivirus tools or more advanced software.

Good luck!

I used to have a lot of trouble with spyware... you can try out CWShredder. This helped out a lot with those spyware changing your homepage, redirecting you to other places and what not. Also, always update your antivirus programs and have them running at all times. Hope that helps!

Something I read recently said bootup Windows in safe mode and run Spybot or adaware. Then go back to regular Windows.

Definitely do a safe mode and run spybot..if that doesnt work you can run a repair on windows with your Windows cd and this will copy all the original system files back to the computer. Then run spyware to clean up the registry and any remaining files.

Like Murph182 said, try HiJack This. You can get it by doing a Google search or go here http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3155.html

It's pretty powerful, so watch out! You don't want to kill Windows.
Good luck though.
