The updates are:
up to 2.0 GHz G5's
up to 250 GB HD
802.11g
Bluetooth
Gigabit ethernet
128 MB ATi Radeon 9600
up to 8x Dual Layer Superdrives
512 MB RAM starting
iLife '05
OSX 10.4
Same design

They also released updated eMac's (1.42 G4) @ $799 & $999

Apple releases updated iMac's

Macs hold their value very well compared to PCs.
You should get quite a bit for a trade in. Tho i'm not sure Apple does trade-ins. Probably have to sell it to someone.

I'm planning on selling my 15" 1ghz Powerbook and upgrade to a 12" Powerbook.

you are correct on both accounts. apple does not buy back or trade in computers, but the apple certified resellers in my area do
