Joy Rides

On Saturday afternoon I got a ride in a friend's 350 ( ~5.7L V-8 ) LT1 Firebird at wide-open throttle on a straightaway. It was my first experience in a muscle car at W.O.T, but HOT DAMN!!! I want to buy a used one just for that rush. With every gear shift, I was slammed back in my seat and couldn't lean forward if I wanted to. I don't think the 3's acceleration comes close

Tell us your joy-ride experiences, people...

A friend of mine (whom happens to be a Honda loyalist) has a supercharged Del Sol. That friggin' car is fuckin' FAST! The road he lives on is pretty barren, but not straight. I hopped in and we took off. He wasn't shifting until about 8 grand and everytime he dumped the clutch I'd get slammed into my seat and the tires would chirp. All of his mods were internal (no apperance mods except rims).

One of my best "muscle car" experiences was in Arizona. A guy that lived in my neighborhood owned a Mustang specialty shop. My father-in-law had some work done at his shop and asked if my wife could get a ride in his "new mustang" since she was such a big fan. He happily agreed and offered to take me as well.

I hopped in the back seat. Later on, he revealed to me that I was the first person ever to sit in that back seat (which made the back seat in an RSX look inviting). Anyway, the Mustang in question was a '97 Shinoda edition Mustang... of which, only two were built. I'm not sure what he had under the hood, but it sounded like there was a blower (although I could be wrong). He took us out to the "Bee Line" highway which is pretty straight and very long as it's surrounded by desert. When he mashed the gas, I damn near flew out of the car (good thing my seat belt was on!) since he had the top down. As he started banging through the gears, I distinctly remember the acceleration being very smooth but VERY strong. Each shift resulted in a tire squeal... even 5th... which is impressive! And who couldn't love that sound? Nothing sounds nicer than a big V8 screamin down the road!

*just some Mustang history* I had never heard of Mr. Shinoda until I saw that Mustang. Apparently, Mr. Shinoda was a designer for GM that defected over to Ford in the late sixties. He's credited with designing the "Boss 302".

Eat right, exercise regularly, die anyway.

twin turbo rx-7, the last version before the 8's came out, close to 650 to the wheels at about 35psi of boost...its daily driven in jersey as well so it might have been seen before...geeezus talk about being pinned to your seat, u dont even feel safe with a seat belt, hence why he has 4/5 point harnesses now, and a roll bar..

**and you thought that wouldn't get removed?

I drove a friend's C32 AMG when it was out of the shop (rare occasion)...loved every minute of it. The car has some serious torque.

My dad was a vehicle transporter for a while and he got to drive a brand-new 2003 BMW Z8 from here to Vancouver. He picked it up in the evening so he could leave for the first ferry the next day, which meant he had it overnight.

We only drove a couple of km's, but that thing was FIERCE! 4.9L V8 with 394hp and 368lb-ft. Handled like a mo-fo and acceleration freely on tap. That car had some serious style, too. It was great watching the young guys in their used 5-series cars gawk and rubber-neck.

Damn fine car - it sold for CAD$250,000.

2003 BMW M5. Press the sport button from a slow roll in 2nd, nail the gas and whole on tight. 2nd-3rd shift chirped the tires.

1970 DeTomaso Mangusta. Ford V8 and an all aluminum body. That thing chirped all 5 gears I shit you not.
