So, I, uh, bought a guitar..

I have no idea how to play guitar. So I bought one. Hoping I may one day learn well enough to actually play it for my friends or something. Don't know a damned thing about the guitar or amp tho.. except the guitar is an Ibanez and the amp is a crate or something. Anyway, pics:

Sorry the pictures suck, but I'm too lazy to drag this stuff outside.

Enjoy your spahgetti, you're very rude.

So, I, uh, bought a guitar..

I can play six chords!

Em, E, Am, A, D, Bm.

I don't know what any of that means, but I can tell they sound different and that's a start

I actually even recognized the D chord as one in the beginning of a Stephen Lynch song.. idk, that stuck out to me, lol.

Get "Fretboard Logic SE" by Bill Edwards. Great guitar book. BTW, I did the same thing -- except I bought an acoustic to learn on, hoping to one day get an electric. But lately my guitar's just been sitting on its stand looking pretty :-(

I too bought a guitar and amp to learn on. I could play the National Anthem and some parts of Metallica songs but I never got very proficient. I always had to work. I haven't picked up in a while. Nice Guitar though! You've got two Humbuckers so any distortion you use will be nice and heavy with less feedback.

Forget about sheet music, that shit is too complicated. Just find a simple song that you like and get "Tabs" for it online. Tabs are MUCH easier to read.

wtf is a humbuckler? i dont know jack shit about this thing, or any guitar for that matter.

Also, you said a word I don't know, so to me that means you're knowledgable..

I have this three position switch down by the volume and tone knobs. What does it do?

That controls your "pickups". The pickups are those little magnets under the strings on the body of your guitar. One pickup has a row of 6 magnets. When you have 2 pickups stacked like a "double pickup", it's called a humbucker. You have 2 humbuckers.

The 3 position switch next to your volume knob controls which pickup will be energized by the amplifier. If the switch is all the way forward, your "forward" pickup will get power (but not the rear one). If the switch is all the way "back" the rear pickup will get power (but not the front one). I you have the switch in the center, both pickups will get power.

By changing which pickup has power, you can change the way your guitar will sound. Although, you should know that humbuckers are designed to play with distortion but you can play "clean" with them too.

Did you happen to pick up a tuner with your guitar? If you can't tune it.. it'll be pretty hard to learn! ...and I see you have some D'Addario strings! Nice choice!
