Mediacom is a whore...

So about a week and half ago..to be exact Feb 2nd. I called mediacom to order a second HD box and DVR unit for my second TV. I scheduled an appointment with the rep for Feb 10th at the 1-5 time slot for instal.. Soooo yesterday I took half the day off work to sit at home and wait for the Mediacom ass to come out and do somehting it would take me two minutes to finish. Well it comes to be about 4:45 and no one has called or showed so I get on the phone and call Mediacom. To my suprise they tell me that I am no where on the schedule to have anything installed...I was so pissed..the dipshit that took my order screwed it up and didnt get me in the system. This of course teached me a lesson to call and confirm the install for next time, which had to be rescheduled for Feb 22nd because that was the earliest they could get me in.

They didnt even care they had screwed up on my install the first time, they just sorry sir It your word verses ours...I ought kick the hell out of the Mediacom people...

Ok just had to rant a little

I had a similar problem with my cable company. However, after they missed our appointment and got to hear me complain about how I couldn't afford to take another day off and I didn't want to wait until the next available weekend day (which was like 2 months away), the supervisor swore to me that he would bump my appointment up to the very first slot on Saturday.

at 10am, the next Saturday, 6 cable vans showed up and all six guys came into my place to wire up the rooms. They were done in 20 minutes!

They even forgot some tools that accidentally fell into my tool box after they left. Sure I lied about "not being able to afford another day off" but they screw me out of money everyday.

Surprisingly enough, my cable provider is Time Warner. That's the ONLY good experience I've had with them.. .which is one more than any other provider.

Ha Im so pissed at Mediacom for changing the HD programming...at first I order HBO and Showtime because they were the only movies channels available in HD so originally I had HBO E HD HBO W HD SHO E HD and SHO W HD ..now they screwed that all up and made it HBO E HD STARZ HD TMC HD and SHO W HD...so out of those I only get the the HBO And SHOW and TMC so Im paying the same but they took away one of my HD channels...fuckers..and they also told me Id get Bravo HD Discovery HD and ESPN HD along HDMN (HD Movie Network) but they took those away too...I am about ready to cancel their service, but I like the On Demand system they have...

Yeah cable providers and such are really horrible. They (as posted in another thread) randomly shut off my cable, 3 weeks after I ordered it, and I had to sit at home, taking a half day off from work, and wait for them to come out. Not only that, I had called them on Saturday before they closed and they wouldn't send anyone out that same day. I was pretty mad about that.

some cable companies don't employ their own techs. I know for a fact that Cablevision outsources their "internet service technicians" to local companies. In a way, that's good because the people who install your shyte actually know what they're doing. OTOH, sometimes signals get crossed because you make an appointment with cable company who in turn makes the appointment with the other company.

Actually, this was in the media a while back. Dell moved ther North American tech support centres to India to save money. But the customers got really upset about poor service quality, not getting issues properly resolved, not being able to understand the reps, etc... that they redirected at least some of their support lines back to the U.S. in order to make the customers happy again.

Well, I'm not sure how accurate the "media" was about that. I never trust anything I hear on the news. From what I understand, Dell setup "support over-flow centers" in India to help with the large volume of calls they were getting. During peak hours, its likely that you will be routed to one of these centers. However, if the problem can't be fixed by them, you're supposed to be routed to a "higher level" technician which is obviously going to be in the U.S.

If you think about it, it makes sense. With the huge volume of calls Dell gets, they would have to hire a lot of people to handle the "low level" issues. Even if they hired them in the U.S., they have to pay them something. If they hire people in India, they pay them almost nothing!

If I was Micheal Dell, I'd bite the bullet and hire people US and show support for my own country regardless of the savings I would have from out-sourcing.. but what I do know. I'm just a customer....
