i sent mine out... labour and shipping was about $50, i figure well worth it, don't have to buy torx screwdrivers / soldering iron

but if already know how to solder, the instructions are all there on xbox-scene and / or mod chip manufacturer site.

Which forum did you go to? I know xbox-scene.com has some of the best tutorials out there.

I used the xenium solderless mod-chip, you can find it on xbox scene depending on how new your xbox they have it to where you take out one screw in the motherboard and screw in an adaptor for the chip to sit on.
I would say since this is your first time to mod talk to your friend or what not, if only to get a few pointers or just have him do it but its good to know what he did so you can troubleshoot problems if they arise.

Don't get solderless. Trust me, I have 2 years under my belt. It tends to move and starts to frag.

Get the X 2.6ce and you should be good.

this guy sells the www.the-console-corner.com

Any xecuter chip either a 2.6 or a 3 will do what you want. I agree MoeMan949 go with a solder mod. I have been modding xboxes for almost 2 years also and have seen alot less problems with soldered in chips
