Ipod Shuffle

Any thoughts?
I'm thinking of getting teh 512 MB version of it. A very simple Mp3 Player.

uhh no screen AT ALL. If you look at the website, they're focusing on the SHUFFLE mode. Apple is trying to make the shuffle mode COOL...... uhhh ok. whoopeee.

What do you need a screen for on a 512 MB player, nXt? Is finding 1 song out of 120 really that hard? I'd prefer to do without the battery draining, weight adding screen, personally. If I needed something to carrying around while working out or whatever, i'd definitely get the iPod Shuffle.

Even on my desktop, I don't really use anything except shuffle. I'll skip songs, but I rarely go to choose a specific one.

I really want one of them, mainly for when I'm working out. I need something tiny, and don't need more than a 256mb even, but changing out songs every day gets really annoying. iTunes will do an auto fill with random songs from a playlist or the whole collection.

nXT: Why would I need a screen?

Apple has really done their homework with this one. Most iPod users select a playlist, and then shuffle their songs via that playlist. Skipping songs when needed.

I've had an iPod since the first generation, and my use habits of setting it on a playlist and shuffling haven't changed this entire time. There have been times when I would switch through playlists, but that'd be about it.

However, if I am exercising, or training on my bike - times when I use an iPod the MOST, I have never once needed a screen.

This iPod Shuffle is going to be the ultimate gym/workout music player. It's smaller than anything out there, and costs less than any other flash based mp3 player out there.

I can't wait to see the sales numbers on these. I already own a 3G right now, which I use every day and is in my car stereo, but the shuffle will be great for the gym and training.

if you go to the gym which i try to about 4 times a week. just get an ipod mini.. holds alot more songs and it easily clips to your shorts and its tiny so it doesnt get in the way.. id get that over a shuffle because i dont have to switch the songs out all the time

I can honestly say that as someone who IS active, even an iPod Mini is too large to be considered "invisible" while using it.

Less than an ounce of weight, size of a stick of gum. I know what I will be holding in my jersey pocket w/o fear of it bouncing around, or breaking the bank. $249 vs. $99 for a playlist of songs that I will rarely change, or if I do change, I use iTunes every day so it won't be a problem.

You have to charge the Shuffle through USB I believe, might as well take that time to make a new playlist

It's definitely a cool little unit. You also have options regarding play order. That is, you can make playlists and play them in order. For the most part I would not think you need a screen for this size of a player. Generally you would be more selective in the music you put one it, so you would already know the info for the song. Even if you did not, I suspect that once you plug it back into the computer you will be able to see the songs on it, so you would be able to get the song info for songs you were not quite sure about. Anyway, I think that for the purpose of working out and what not, it's a great buy.

THanks for all the input everyone. I've thought alot about the no screen issue and its not that big of a deal to me. First of all, I'd put all the songs that I want to hear on the iPod shuffle so its not that big of a deal to see what song I am listening to. And also, I don't need a Mini or anything because even at 512 MB thats maybe 100-120 songs so thats more than enough for me. I also would use it to work out with too. And its so small and light that it wouldn't be a distraction and I don't have to stop and look down and see the screen.

Also, you can use it as a flash drive as well so I can use it for work too!
