$499 Macintosh: http://www.apple.com/macmini/

$99 Flash based iPod: http://www.apple.com/ipodshuffle

Apple now officially owns the portable music world.

That is all.

I'm thinking about picking up a mac mini. I was gonna grab a G5 but I can't afford one right now. A mac mini would make a good secondary computer.

Given that I have a 40gig ipod and an powerbook, I have no need for either, but they are both cool. The iPod shuffle is nice, but really nothing too special. I'm really impressed by the imac mini. That is some serious engineering, which is what I have come to expect from Apple. The thing is barely wider than a compact disc and only a couple of inches tall. I can see a lot more people making the switch now with an inexpensive mac. Not that other macs are too expenisive, given when you get with entry level macs compared to what comes on the sub 1k pcs, but the public has always held the perception that macs are too costly. This ought to fix some of that. Stylish, practical, and a true bargain.

Im thinking of getting one too now..I need a replacement to a linux box I hardly use and think this would be a well priced second computer. cant beat $499 for that power.

I'm debating the mac mini as a carputer too.

I like the gallery for the mac mini. It's shown with a display that cost twice as much as the computer. Being a mac user, I can't say enough about the machines and operating system. I think that switchers would be pleasently suprised with the ease of use.

I was just gonna say that would make a great carputer. Too bad it would be mac and not windows.

There's nothing wrong with it being mac. Dependable system. You can actually run Windows on one, however the 1.4 g4 in the mini mac is not the best for running Virtual PC.
