Not quite mazda related, but a promising idea

Quote:
After five years, the math suggested a need for a far greater range of spring and damping rates than what was possible then (or now) with conventional steel, air, and hydraulic systems. So Dr. Bose set his team of research engineers about the task of leveraging the company's expertise in power amplification, high-speed switching, and basic electronics--which make Bose audio systems what they are today--to develop an electromagnetic suspension.
They have a prototype, and looks like it's working pretty good

Please continue in Consumer Reviews? What?

Anyway, yeah that Bose suspension is pretty cool... pretty old news, but it'll be interesting to see if they ever get it to a level where it's truly usable.

I dunno - I think this bose suspension will still sound like ass .... just like almost all other Bose stuff.

Until we see this technology being used in a Bentley Continental (with good results), it's just hype to puff up Bose's brand image. Partnership with GM is another way of saying "let's sandbag this thing by picking a car manufacturer whose customers can't afford the technology anyway."

I'd have more confidence in this suspension if it weren't for Bose's history of selling product based on gimmick and strange claims. I tried out their "acousticwave" CD player thing........ while it sounds okay - it's no where near sounding at that awesome level that Bose touts. Really cheap plastics, poor controls, and everything was just crappy. Probably a $100 product marked up to over a thousand just because of the brand name. Also, I guess having Herbie Hancock tout something seems to give it credibility.

^^^ herbie hancock

i think the suspension looks promising, take a look at the video they have at motertrend.com. im sure it wont be put into mass production for 10 years or so but it will sure solve many demands put on modern suspension systems. just imagine having a soft comfortable ride and haveing flat cornering like a race car.

i guess only time will tell if this suspension is worth a damn.
