Mazda 3 Towed on New Year's Day :(

Went to a party tonight and when i left at 4am, my car was nowhere to be found. After looking by a tree to see if they left any towing signs, low and behold...it was there.

Called for directions to the lot, lady wanted 80 bucks cash. Arrived at the lot and saw my car just sitting there. Thinking if I could just hop in my car and just jet, I took the chance. I was able to get away but then I had a guilty conscience of what if they took my license plate down and my VIN number, then I'd probably have a warrant for my arrest the next time I got stopped. So...I let the tow truck trying to chase me take me back in. I could have easily ditched him but was scared once I got on the freeway, a cop would be looking for my vehicle description.

They got my car again, put it up on the lift, and then said it would cost me double because I ran off LOL! Do you think I would have gotten arrested down the road or would I have been cool to just take off and never to be seen again? Is it also legal for them to be double charging me like that? Just wondering if any of you know of any stories if this could be legal practice. I'm in Fairfax, VA by the way. What a shitty night.

Mazda 3 Towed on New Year's Day :(

why didnt you just drive the car back to the lot and pay the pople and then your on your way , why they they have to tow your car back?
if you ask me thats was a way to get the extra money.

those tow companys are crap most of then are they will do anything to get money from you i know of one thats has been playing with someone i know for awhile. but yeah you could have gotten in trouble since you didnt pay the bill. so yeah its bullshit that they took the car but there is really not much you could have done to get away with it( without paying)

Ok, if YOU had possesion of the car and you were being chased by tow-truck dude, why didn't you just pull over and give the guy the $80? :? Why'd you LET him take your car back????

I didn't have enough cash on me. I had my debit card. Even if I paid Mr. Tow man on the spot the 80 bucks I think he still would of hassled me for me for more. Plus, I had no reciept really so if the company was a dick, they could say I didn't pay.

So, you couldn't drive back yourself, park in an untowable spot and go pay the bill? There's just NO WAY in hell that I would have let them touch my car again.

Nope, he made me get out of the car, put my car in park, and he lifted it off the ground by the front wheels and drove off like my car was just a piece of shit and was going as fast as he wanted even the roads where shitty. You could imagine how pissed I was.

Think I would have been in more trouble if I didn't pay and went home?
