First Charley, then Frances.. NOW IVAN!!!

Well looks like this one is going to be a direct hit for Miami, all models show it disecting Florida in 1/2 and as the hurricane stands right now it is the 3rd largest hurricane of all time.. beating out Andrew which as some of you might know was a totally devastating storm... wind gusts of Ivan are 210mph I mean if this storm hits.. we are royalloy F*&&ed

When I see your hurricanes, I'm so happy to be freezing my ass here, up north. At least with snowstorms, we still got our homes.

What we can all hope is that Ivan either blows east or west of us...its on a pretty specific track to miami right now, but its still so early too tell.

So far I've been pretty lucky through Charley and Frances, but a lot of my co workers have had some tough times coming from the Kissimmee/St. Cloud area.

Everyone think good thoughts about it blowing away.

210 mph gusts?? Where did you get that info from? That number seems a little high to me. All I've heard is 160 mph maximum sustained winds... nothing about gusts shooting up to 200+

Name: Hurricane Ivan
Location: About 455 miles, 735 km, Southeast of Kingston Jamaica.
Lat/Long: 14.2N, 70.7W
Max Winds: 160 mph
Category: 5

That's basically all I could get off the site. didn't see anything about 210 mph gusts. That seems extremely exaggerated to me. One of the only storms ever recorded to reach an intensity that high was Hurricane Camille in 1969. It had maximum sustained winds of 190 mph! with gusts upwards of 210-215 mph. I don't see Ivan having gusts that high with a sustained speed of "only" 160.

Since I'm not a weather man, I can't say that the information you heard is inaccurate, but I would consider it suspect.

The reason I've expressed interest in this topic is because my twin sister just moved down to Florida in July. If Ivan really IS gusting up to 210... then I'm driving down to help her evacuate...

You guys probably don't remember the tornado that hit Oklahoma City in 1999. I know its not a hurricane but the NWS reported that a truck-mounted Doppler radar in Oklahoma City observed a record 318 mph wind speed. That is just insanely fast. I went up there a week or so after it happened and there were literally cars wrapped around tree trunks. It's too bad I didn't have a camera then or I would have some interesting photos to show you guys. Anyways the link to one of the stories is here: http://www.srcc.lsu.edu/newsletter/1...ay99spec1.html Anyways best of luck to you guys in Florida, and feel free to send any hurricanes that aren't too big up this way, the few I have seen here in Maryland haven't been too bad.
