This ever happen to you on AIM?

I was online, and all of a sudden i get some kind of warning message that someone wants me to download an unknown file type, so i close it, but there is like a million of these things, then he messages me, with like an assload of ? marks followed by a black box. it boots me off AIM, but I manage to block him. So i get back on, and i get the same shit from another person. So i block him. Now i am all freaked out and im running every anti-spyware virus program on my comp. And i put my firewall back up. ( i had it down because i was downloading some stuff)

Any ideas on what this was? Has this ever happened to anyone?

Never happened to me, but if the problem is on your end...try to uninstall then reinstall AIM. Most of those AIM "hacks" can be fixed this way.

If that doesn't work...as a short term fix, disable the ability for people to send you file transfers.

Also, I'd recommend not upgrading to the latest and greatest versions...I stopped upgrading at 5.2.3292

The recent upgrades have been annoying, at least for me.

There are exploits going around on AIM clients recently - including some thoughts on how to use it to propogate viruses. I only allow IMs from people already on the buddy list - no random IMs for me.

Change your file download settings to only get requests from people on your buddy list. That might help.
