Um, as much as I dislike bush... we do invest heavily on Taiwanese defense. Hell, I think they even have Aegis cruisers from us.

Umm, yeah, notice in the second paragraph that it mentions that Taiwan is looking to buy weapons systems from the US. Sounds like the US is working pretty closely in the interest of Taiwan. Try again.

A place where U.S. troops would do a lot of good is the Dafur region of the Sudan where hundreds of thousands of people are dying. But, wait, the U.S. is a bit outstretched now, aren't they?

Well, according to the fundamentalists, all that bad stuff is just going to hasten the End Times. So it's all good! ('vote Republican').

Ready for the best part? Taiwan isn't a country. It's not officially recognized as such by the US. We don't want to piss off mainland China by admitting there's another China but we want to protect the other China that doesn't exist from Mainland China which wants to destroy the other China that doesn't exist, even though they do a lot of buisness together and there's airliners flying back and forth from mainland China to the China that isn't really China and doesn't officially exist.

I remember growing up back in the 80's....everything was either Made in Japan or Made in Taiwan.....and I mean EVERYTHING...

Where I grew up, Wisconsin, the world is either black or white.* Old timers in Wisconsin call Taiwan: Free China, simply cuz Taiwan refuses to accept Communism after the Chinese Civil War (up until today), us Americans, the wolrd leader in democracy, would definitely support a nation that promotes democracy.* Old timers in Wisconsin calls China: Red China, cuz red represents communism.

Taiwan IS an independent nation, US cut diplomatic relations with Taiwan in 1979 to make money in China, but since the US can't let the rest of the world look at this as US promoting communism over democracy, so the Congress scripted up a Taiwan Relations Act.* Which calls for the US to protect Taiwan if China ever dares to invade, maintains a "unofficial" diplomatic relationship with Taiwan's government, all this was done to satisfy the Chinese, cuz China is anal and can't accept the fact that Taiwan IS a nation, (an apple is an apple, just cuz you Chinese don't like apples don't mean you gotta make the whole world hate it like you do) a nation that is about 100 times smaller but doing a lot better in everything than they are.* Jealousy?* Cold war mentality?* whatever it is, China is shady and I would trust the Taiwanese any given day over the Chinese government.

**Some interesting facts:* Taiwan is the only nation in the world, that is not included in the United Nations.* Taiwan is the only country in the world, that is not included in the WHO.* Taiwan is the only country in the world that cannot have its own national athem sung or national flag raised if one of their athelets wins a gold medal.*

However, Taiwan is the world's 11th largest economy, US's 5th largest trading partner, 4 out of 5 laptop computers are made in Taiwan, has the world's tallest building, GDP is in the top ten globally, Bill Gates once said "If the world is without Taiwan, we may still have no computers in each home".....a nation that has done so much, being treated so unfairly, I think the US government should wake up and show more support to Taiwan and show a tougher stance against Communist China.

...How do I know so much about Taiwan?* I got shipped out here to work
