Dashboard DVD at centre of murder trial
ANCHORAGE, ALA. - An Alaskan driver is fighting murder charges after his pickup truck veered into the wrong lane and killed two people while he was allegedly watching a movie on a dashboard DVD player.

Prosecutors charged Erwin J. Petterson Jr. with second-degree murder in connection to the October 2002 crash that killed Robert and Donna Weiser, rather than charging him with the more common dangerous driving charges.

Is having a TV or some sort of game consul in your car a really good idea? No offense to anyone who may have either one in your car, I think its kind of lame, if you really want to watch TV or play video games why not just go inside?

I guess the stated purpose is so your passenger can watch something on a long drive. But I think the distraction would be too much for a driver. Plus even if you weren't really watching it and got into an accident, they could still try and prove that you were distracted by it.

The only reason I have thought of putting a screen in my car is the possiblity of being able to put a modded x-box with a 120 or so gigs of music and being able to see what is playing, no different than the display on a mp3 player. That and the fact I'm hoping I can rig up some sort of gps system using linux on the x-box. That'd be nice. But yeah for movies just walk your ass inside and use all the money for a surround sound system (I already have one thats why I have to get the screen for the car, it all makes sense see?) But actually thinking about it airchinapilot is probably right, it'd be way too tempting to try and watch a movie or something so it's probably not a good idea at all :?
