Last night as I was driving home from work, traffic started stacking up as I approached my city and I ducked off the freeway. From that exit, I take a frontage road which winds along, through a sparsely developed area, then commercial later on. There's a two-lane left turn onto this frontage road, I was in the left hand lane behind a Neon, and to his right there was a bronze-colored Lexus ES300. Two young men sat up front, hip-hop music turned up loud, goofy big spinners on his wheels rotating in the wind.

The light turned green, we made our turn onto 4-lane street. As we approached the next light, the guy in the Lexus is all antsy, weaving back and forth, and coming up fast on a slower car in the right lane. The Neon turned off, I had clear left lane ahead and accelerated. All of the sudden, and I had a hunch that he was going to do it, the kid in the Lexus made a sudden lane change right into my path, cutting me off. At this point, he's about 75 feet from the light which has turned red, so where's he going to go with this now ? It's either run the light or lock 'em up, so he gunned it and sailed through the red light.

Later, I was only doing about 50, but I caught up to him because the road is sort of twisty. There's a stop sign there, and he waited for me to pull alongside. I don't street race much, but the punk was asking for it, so what the heck. I was driving my WRX, not the 3, so I quickly gave it some revs, slipped the clutch and just crushed him. :P It wasn't even close. Then I backed off, having proved the point that his car wasn't fast. The Lexus executed the flyby as I knew he would, with a twist - swerving over into my lane just as he passed as if to run me off the road.

I just wanted to avoid this idiot at that point. Hah, when I reached the Chevron station at the main intersection to gas up, there was the Lexus waiting at the light. As I got out to gas up the car, the guy and his bro rolled down the windows and started yelling some kind of taunts. I just laughed at them.

And this is the sort of person who probably prides himself on his "mad driving skilz."

That's great, dioxviad. Sort of: Lexus merges with the Mattel Hot Wheels division.

Street races that aren't straight lines, or one single merge in the lane to see who'll get their first - I consider bad taste.

That guy sounds really dangerous, especially when traffic lights are involved. People should not be cutting you off either, that's just ludacris. Man, just boggles my mind. The fact that people like that are on the road and CAUSE road rage is a major problem in society. They should be ticketed.

Of course you're not 100% innocent because you took him on, but if he hadn't started it, it would have never happened. I freakin' hate that.

This always happens - I'll be driving my own pace much as you were, and people will cut me off..what did I do to them? Stupid. I've already got my car smashed into once, luckily no damage other than some paint chips, but that really pisses me off.

Anyway, for safety if someone cuts you off, just back down and let them be a hero, that way you won't grow up to be like them one day

Drive it like you hate it!

Haven't you read this article yet ?

LEXUS / HOT WHEELS MERGER COMES TO FRUITION

Detroit Free Press, May 21,2004 (AP). Few would have predicted success for upscale automaker Lexus last year after being spun off by Toyota Motor Corporation, only to merge with Mattel's Hot Wheels toy division. Critics lambasted the seemingly bizarre deal. The merger of two apparently divergent business units was greeted with everything from cautious sketicism to outright ridicule on the front page of the Wall Street Journal. But now, with excitement building over the Lexus JL (Johnny Lightning) 300 rolling off assembly lines and ready to hit dealer showroom floors this August, it appears likely that the naysayers will be proved wrong.

Said Michael Schwartz, Executive Vice President of Marketing for Lexus Hot Wheels, "We're delighted by the enthusiastic response to the JL300. And quite frankly, we're not at all surprised. Lexus has always been about the cachet of building quality, upscale automobiles. But let's be frank here, aside from the IS300 which was well received among youthful buyers, Lexus has been seen as somewhat snooty. Now your Dom Perignon-sipping, Rolex and Armani suit-wearing crowd is not going to buy Japanese when they can be seen arriving in a Mercedes, or maybe a Ferrari."

"That's where the Hot Wheels element has been a huge plus for us, reaching out to a much broader, down-to-earth and youthful demographic. Think of the millions of American kids who played with and collected Hot Wheels vehicles. Now they can have one, at 1:1 scale ! With this new vehicle, you get all the traditional strengths which have made Lexus so great, combined with the fresh and vibrant design elements Hot Wheels lovers demand, and really, really big-ass rims."
