OK forget the wimp out decision.

I'm going to go with a Denon-1804 receiver @ around $350. Now someone give me some suggestions for two small mains and a sub. I'll use existing speakers for the rear. Oh yeah, need a suggestion for a center channel too.

Keep this CHEAP.

How much are you looking to spend?
Here in Canada there's a full set (I know you said you didn't need the rears) made by Dahlquist called the Orbit 5.1. I went shopping with my friend's family when they were buying a system. I convinced them on a Harmon Kardon receiver, and they got those speakers to go with. They sound amazing considering their small size. Not as good as a good set of floor standing speakers, but pretty good considering. I believe the set runs around $400 Canadian.
I'm not even sure if Dalhquist stuff is available outside of Canada though.

cheep? Pioneer has a decent set of towers for $99.99 each. and their center to match is only $79.99. If you want cheep, look them up. best I've heard under $100 each.

Two small mains?

Try a pair of NHT Super Zeros. $87.95 each at www.onecall.com

Fosgate Audionics FA51.0, $150 per pair with free shipping at www.soundcity.com, a matching center channel is available for $109.

Velodyne CHT-14, $119.99 per pair at www.etronics.com. Matching center channel is less than $100 but is out of stock.

Personally, I'd rank these in the order of NHT, Velodyne, and Fosgate. I don't know much about the Fosgate but it looks to be well made.

The sub is going to be tough for an on-line purchase unless shipping is free. There is a Velodyne 10" sub on etronic.com for $150 and you can use their shipping calculator to find out how much it will run you.

They also have an Acoustic Research 8" sub for $130, and a KLH sub for $85.

Best Buy has a little Sony 8" sub for $100. Anyway, that VX-10 for $150 is a great deal and that's what I'd go for.

Nice choice of receiver.

If you are willing to spend a little more, check out the Paradigm Cinema Series, and Energy Take 5. They may be a bit harder to find, but Canadian speakers are fantastic. I think Definitive also makes some good sounding buget price speakers, but I don't remember the models.

I found a nice Infiniti center for $80, no more than $90 shipped.

I am not sure if these Wharfedale Bipolar speakers are in stock, but they might make some good mains. I would give them a call and ask them when they expect them in again. $62 a pair!!!

Edit: The Wharfedales are great for rears according to reviews. It might be better to put them in the rear and move your rears up front if they are big enough.
