venting about local ordinances

Whattya know... you aren't allowed to have for sale signs in a vehicle ANYWHERE in the village. Even in your own driveway. $15 citation - not a big deal but I would have liked to known ahead of time so I didn't bother getting the signs. Grrr.

Add this to the $15 a year for the privelege of parking in your own driveway and the eternal pain of not being allowed to park in the streets between 1am and 5am...

At least I can have whatever color mailbox I want.

Must be a covenant thing. In Denver, you have have a For Sale sign on literally anything you want. As long as its not offensive to the neighbors or on-coming traffic.

I had a ton of for sale signs on my car when I was trying to sell it. In the end, the way I got it sold was a posting through craigslist.com

Careful if you post through there though, I also got an offer from a scam artists also.

Thanks rpc, I'll check that out. The signs were supposed to be "budget" advertising - I've spent $35 on a premium Yahoo listing which got 3 leads so far, $35 on a classified ad that got 2 leads so far, and $17 (including the fee) on the signs that got 1 lead. Plus my husband wrote up a website for me and I've posted a link on the Buy/Sell section of this forum. Also, I put up ads on bulletin boards at work. So I'm going for as large of a customer base as possible.

I'm just miffed that the ordinance I violated was so deep in the village code - which is online - that I wouldn't have found it unless I already knew it was there. They need to do a summary bullet-list of thou-shalt-nots to hand out to new residents. BTW, a village is just what they call a town around here. I guess the Chicagoland suburbs can feel classier that way.
