Subaru vs Mazda?

Okay, opening yet another can of worms.

I'm kinda split between Subarus and Mazdas. I love the 2.5RS, and it seems to fit me in terms of driving style and that... but the new Mazda 3 seems not only cheaper, but also fitting my driving style. I'm all into handling and hard cornering.

So I'd like to know why people would buy a Mazda 3 over a Subaru? Or perhaps why you bought the Protege over the Impreza?

I know you're staring at that Red X avatar of mine

For me I would choose the Mazda3 because I get a nice discount off the Sticker Price, there is a AWD version coming out later, and I don't really like Subaru.

AWD is nice, but it adds a lot of weight... so it depends if you're happy with FWD or not.

Plus I think Subi's are cheap pieces of crap, but that's just my opinion

AWD means nothing for me. Subarus are more expensive than Mazdas to start with and I do believe reliability is the same. Just when you look at the price, the 2.5 Impreza is about $27K CAD - close to the Mazda6 I4 GT at $28K CAD - different pricing arena than a 3.

First, when I saw the topic, I thought it said Saturn. lol Guess I need to wake up this morning.

Second, the only nice car I think Subaru has is the WRX, which is overpriced. The rest of their lineup are basically station wagons on steroids. I thought they used to be pretty crappy cars, until recently. My neighbor used to have a Subaru Brat and I always think of that ugly "baby El Camino"-lookin piece of junk. Bad name recognition.

Well, teh WRX is the Impreza, just a few under the hood changes.

But I think they just look cheap. Especially the ones with those hood scoops.

2Fast2Furious looking for me. I like a sleeper look, not a huge fan of the big 20ft spoiler and gold rims. Thats just asking for a ticket from the popo's.

2005 legacy? Yes.
Current Subarus? Nope.

well, I've liked Subarus and such... and it is true the 2.5RS starts at 27k...the car I'm thinking about.

thinking AWD would be good for the winter rains and snow. We get a lot of that here on the Canadian West Coast. Added safety, that sort of thing?

But then again, the money I save (plus the incentives) could add up to a lot of mods, eh?
