Placing this link in a separate thread so that other gen2 owners can find it easier.

I didn't write this how-to, so all credit to the guy who did.

After performing this mod on my 2012 grand touring sedan with OEM fogs I am able to:

  • With only parking lights on:
    • Turning the OEM fog switch to on turns the OEM fog lights on
    • Turning the OEM fog switch to off turns the OEM fog lights off

  • With low beams on:
    • Turning the OEM fog switch to on turns the OEM fog lights on
    • Turning the OEM fog switch to off turns the OEM fog lights off

  • With parking lights and low beams off:
    • Turning the OEM fog switch to on does nothing, OEM fogs remain off
    • Turning the OEM fog switch to off does nothing, OEM fogs remain off
Other thoughts:

I liked this mod because it didn't require any work in the engine bay or messing with the firewall.

The green wire in the top harness is somewhat difficult to get to. I did use a 10mm nut driver as the author suggested to move the fuse box a bit for more access. I had to use a razor blade to strip the green wire because I couldn't get the entire strip/crimp tool into this small area. This was the most challenging part of the mod.

The orange wire in the bottom harness is a lot easier to work with. I could strip/crimp it normally. Be careful here and make sure you pick the orange wire that he refers to (next to blue and brown), as there are two orange wires that look similar.

I used radio shack pink fully-insulated quick connects (the pink ones for 22awg) for the connections.

I don't know if this works for all gen2 models/years, I just know it worked on my 2012 grand touring sedan.

Refer to 09-14-17 (page 2859 of the PDF) of the gen2 owners manual (on this forum somewhere) for a better reference on how to remove the hood release switch. I spent a few minutes on this as I didn't want to damage it.

In general I'm happy with this mod as I was looking for some sort of lighting (more than just parking lights) during the daytime that wouldn't accelerate the death of my low beam HIDs.
